we have just returned from a 14nt holiday at the Renieri apts, and its not nearly as bad as you have read,we were pleased by our tiny clean room that was basic but ok for what we paid,as we have paid more for a lot worse,so if you like greece and you love kefeloniaskala, then dont worry,as we have been back to the same resort 8 times over 5 years, and we have just booked for a week back at the Renieri on the 2nd september 08 so if it was that bad then we wouldnt be going back!

Its in a fab, basic place, you are about a 4 to 5 minutes walk from the sea front, and about 2 to 3 mins from the resort, its cleaned twice weekly.
The only thing l would say is that you ask for a 1st floor room with a balcony if you can get it,but even the
ground floor rooms seemed nice.
We normally stop at the makis studioes at the top of the town, but we had a really nice time staying here.
Dont be put off by the reports you read if you want top notch, then pay for it,but if you want a good basic apartment to kip in and have a cuppa and shower in the morning then go for it.
If its a big kitchen with all the utensills and matching plates, cups etc dont go!

just returned from renieris apps....they are what they are.basic dont expect anything other than that..location is fantastic,no pool but your across from big village and can use the pool there but if you are after a bit of luxury then stay at the village their rooms are large by greek standards but if its budget your after then the reneris are just fine due to the location

I have recently returned from a weeks holiday in Skala. I had a lovely holiday and would definately go back but I would not recommend the Renieri apartments. I had to clean the bathroom as soon as I got there as it was pretty dirty. I was staying on  the ground floor even though when I booked the holiday, my only request was to NOT be on the ground floor. The dog that lives next door, barked and whimpered right outside my door in the early hours of most mornings.  The location of the apartments is great, only a few minites walk to the beach, shops and restaurants. Maybe I'm getting old but I think next time I'd rather pay a bit more and have somewhere nicer to sleep!

We have just got back from these apartments they are great if you want good basic accommodation that is near everything you need on holiday. Nearest supermarket and bakery 4 mins walk. Good variety of tavernas and bars 4 mins walk. The beautiful beach about a 6 min walk. You obviously have to take into account you will be walking at a leisurely pace as Skala is so realxing and a lovely resort to be in. Other comments before about dogs and traffic did worry me but these worries were put to rest as soon as were going to sleep on our first night. No real noise that would annoy us in room 24.

I would give these apartments the thumbs up if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, with good basic accomodation to make your breakfast, have a shower and to put your head down at night. The towels and linen were changed once in the week, the bins could of been emptied more often, but no real problem as there is a main bin outside so you can get rid of your rubbish easily enough. Air conditioning is €5 per day which we thought was quite good and you can pay and get the controller from the lady who lives beneath the apartments if your rep forgets!

I just wish i was still in Skala, i will definitely be returning as the island is just breath taking!

Just back from Kef and stayed at the Renieri apartments again as we liked them last year. This year they have had air conditioning installed and generally been freshened up. Only disappointment was although the apartment was cleaned regularly, our linen and towels were only changed twice during the fortnight we stayed and the final time they were changed was on the day before we left! Otherwise, very happy with accomodation - basic but adequate.

We have just returned from a great two week stay at these apartments.  I was really worried after reading all the bad reports about these apartments.  We stayed in apt 21, which is right at the front of the building, yes there was noise from the passing traffic and the locals shouting (lady opposite in the white and green house) but after a day or so you got used to it.  We also licked the little seating area outside which was made to feel a little bit more private with the cleaverly placed plants.

Our apartments was cleaned every other day and the beding and towels changed, the cleaning lady is lovely, but speaks very little english.  There was also air conditioning in the apartments, which was a god send on some of the nights.

We would definatley stay at these apartments again, they were in just the right place for easy access to everything you could need for a really nice holiday.

If you are going away shortly, i wish you a happy holiday

I have just returned from a week at the Renieri apartments. I read all the other comments before I went and tried to change the booking. However, myself and my boyfriend only paid £150 each, and thought that if they were really that bad, then we could always move. I was terrified having read all the comments on this website.

However, they were 100% fine. Yes, it was all a bit basic, but it was clean enough and the location was excellent, and I find what has been said before grossly over-exaggerated. The beach is literally a 2 minute walk away. Our towels and sheets were changed every two days, and there was a dryer outside for beach towels. We were in app. 20, so didn't have our own balcony, but there was a chair/table and we were quite happy there. There were plates and knives etc (perfect for the odd sandwich), and a very large fridge. I'm not sure I would stay there again, but for a budget holiday they're absolutely fine. Skala is gorgeous, and if you'd rather save on the accommodation and spend more money in resort, then I would stay there. The only disappointment was the Rep – bit useless but nice enough!

NB. The restaurants are all superb. Our favourite was Nufaro. Absolutely brilliant food and the waiters were uber-firendly. The Pines and Mi-Abeli were also really good.

Skala has beautiful beaches and is very relaxing.  Unfortunately the accommodation was a let down.  Described as in a quiet location by Olympic, but so far from it.  It is on one of the main roads leading into the resort with lorries, construction vehicles, tractors and coaches passing down the road at all times of the night.

The accomodation was in a very poor state of cleanliness when we arrived and we purchased cleaning products to give it the once over.  We also lost water for 2 days running including our last night a nd had to hang around to wait for it to come back on. It was a disappointment, but Skala is a lovely place for relaxing on fantastic beaches, its is quiet and the locals are friendly.

JUST ARRIVED BACK FROM THE BEAUTIFIL ISLAND OF KEFALONIA.WE WERE IN APARTMENT 33.THE ROOMS WERE VERY SPACIOUS TWO GOOD SIZED BEDROOMS AND TWO BALCONYS. THE SIDE BALCONY OFFERED A WONDERFUL VIEW OF THE MOUNTAIN, AND THE LARGER BALCONY GAVE SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE SEA AND THE SURROUNDING AREA. THE LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT, SHOPS TAVERNAS AND THE BEACH WERE ONLY MINUTES AWAY. THE ROOMS WERE CLEANED REGULARLY AND YES THERE WAS SOME OCCASIONAL TRAFFIC NOISE AND DOGS BARKING (BUT DOGS BARK HERE DON'T THEY!?!). OVERALL A BIG THUMBS UP TO THE RENIERI APARTMENTS.

Confusedwe have just come back from scala and after having seen the beauty of kefalonia
we will be back next year . unfortunately that does not apply to the renieri apartments.
we stayed in no 19 studio no privacy , and hey we can socialise with the anyone but you need some space
it was an oven, even with the fan
from the front (as in the brochure the apartments look fine) but we were in ground floor hell, i know greece is basic and this i expected. but theres no escape from the heat morning or night .
but there is always the status cafe bar at the end of the road. were we spent most of our time with the excellent hosts dionisis and tess.
excellent holiday but dont stay at the renieri.

We went for the last two weeks of August 2004 and had a great time!!

The apartments were everything we were expecting them to be and to be honest we all know how basic these places are. But hey! What can you expect for what you pay? We took our own kettle and found the rooms to be satisfactorily cleaned and maintained. Yes, i did have to take the bleach to the bathroom but then i would anyway- and we found the cleaners were friendly and even laundered our own towels.

Location was very handy opposite the medical center, and close to the beach, shops and restaurants but yes there is a little bit of passing traffic noise and the odd barking dog- not that it hindered us though.

We went there to explore the island of Kefalonia and what a great place it is!! Who wants to sit around in the apartment all day anyway??? Get out and enjoy yourself!

Stuart T

stayed in apt 33 absolutely horrendous!the cleaning was crap.the view of the hut (outside toilet)was not what we expected, the bed springs were poking through the mattress, the electric was turned off and so was the hot water, apparently because our tour company (Golden Sun)hadn't paid the owners. We would't let this put us off greece but we certainly wouldn't stay there again or use that company again.

Does anyone have any up to date information or comments on the standard of these apartments, ie. from this summer?

Michaela L

Just arrived back from Skala we have been before. The Renieri Apartments however leave alot to be desired, if you have time to change your booking then I really suggest that you try to.

We were in Room 30, I had to bleach the place out before I would let my daughter take a shower, the white plastic furniture including the plastic toilet seat had been painted over, not nice, I again had to clean before using. YUK.

Sheets were changed once in 2 weeks, Towels when they were changed were dirty and stained, we used our beach towels instead.

When the Kitchen sink emptied the Bubbles came up the hole in the Bathroom floor, if you could call it a bathroom. The floor was constently swimming in water. Not good if you have young children.

Plus the Owners dog slept all day and barked all night and I mean all night, straight under the bedroom window.

When you go to Greece you expect basic, as long as the place is clean. This was not, god knows what it will be like end of the season if this was just the start.

Michael C

We got back 2 weeks ago and had a fantastic time. The apartments were in the perfect location, only minutes from tavernas, supermarkets and the beach. Yes there was a little noise from passing traffic, and there weren't any toasters or kettles in the room, but what do you expect for your money. The most important thing was that we had a bed, toilet and shower. Anyway, we spent most of our time on the beach and in the tavernas, not in our room. By the time we got back at night we were so tired that no noise could wake us up. The rooms were cleaned every second day too.

Dave A

Greece as we all know means 'basic'. We stayed in no.28. The leg fell off the bed and the mattress on the bed had the springs sticking through. The facilities like a kettle and a toaster were none existent.Basic utensils like knives were broken. I suggest the owner has a good look around and invests a little capital in upgrading his accomadation to a basic standard.Being located on a corner It was also noisy at times with coaches picking up and dropping off in the early hours.
Apart from that it was OK.

Charlotte T

just got back last week and had the best holiday ever! We were in appt 30 - 1st floor and north facing so the room was cool! No real noise - yes dogs were barking but they do in England to surprisingly! Maids came every 2 days which was fine. Little balcony with a great view of the sea( and the funny little lady who lives behind the appts - does anybody know what that little hut was for?? Excellent location - 2 minutes walk from the tavernas and 5 minutes to the beach! It's not a beautiful appt - but it's greek - it does what it needs to, has plenty of space and is clean!

Nick G

JUST ARRIVED BACK.WE WERE IN APARTMENT 33.THE ROOMS WERE VERY SPACIOUS TWO EXCELLENT SIZED BEDROOMS,TWO EXCELLENT BALCONYS. THE SIDE BALCONY OFFERED A WONDERFUL VIEW OF THE MOUNTAINS BEHIND, AND THE REAR LARGER BALCONY GAVE SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE SEA AND THE SURRONDING AREA. THE LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT EVERYTHING SUCH AS SHOPS TAVERNAS AND THE BEACH WERE ONLY MINUTES AWAY.ON THE WHOLE I WOULD GIVE MY APPARTMENT A BIG THUMBS UP!!PLUS WE HAD THE ROOMS CLEANED EVERY TWO DAYS THERE WASNT ANY BAD POINTS TO MAKE.

Phil M

Just got back. We were wrongly assigned no 25 on the ground floor! No patio - just a narrow strip at the entrance shared by two other studios. No shade in the morning. The door and window were next to each other so there could be no through draught. It was like an oven. Dogs barking all night. We managed one night. The official price list on the back of the door was interesting - it seemed to state that the lowest cost per studio was 11 euros with 16 as a maximum! A good case for making your own way, but - not to the Renieri apartments!!

Alan B

on arrival were pleased from the outside with apartments. room basic but thats what greece is about! It was our honeymoon and whilst we know what to expect in Greece standards wise we were a bit dissapointed that the bathroom was dirty and balcony was grotty (well it was our honeymoon)agree with comments about noise our place was at the front corner on the top floor (no 32)and we were awoken a few times by what sounded like coaches in the early hours( not to mention a rogue cockerel in the next field). otherwise good central location, nice clean towels and sheets changed regularly. Not recommended for loved up honeymooners! PS we were promised a gift in our room upon arrival...forget it, it aint gonna happen!oh yes...say hello to the lovely ginger tom who lives next door and sleeps all day on the overhead tarpaulin!

Heather L

WE STAYED AT THE BACK OF THE APARTMENTS ON THE GROUND FLOOR AND EXPERIENCED NO NOISE. I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS COMMENT THAT THE PATIO WAS OVERGROWN AS THE PLANTS AND FLOWERS LOOKED VERY NICE. THE MAID SERVICE WAS GREAT, AND THE ONLY DOWNFALL OF THE APARTMENT WAS THE WORN TOILET SEAT.

Haydn M

Situated on the ground floor, with a very over grown patio.. the noise of the traffic was unbearable at times... If you like basic and sleepless nights (even by Greeces stabdards) then you'll love this place!

Sarah W

Appartment 26 was compact but functional, north facing so cool - The only problem was the coaches parking outside in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times for early morning pickups for others going home !
