Ocean View Hotel

Accommodation in Skala

J C          9/10

Myself and my partner stayed at the Ocean View for 1 week mid July 2006 and I have to say it was the best value for money I have come across.

The apartments are basic but clean and charming. The staff helpful. Location ideal. And when coming across other apartments that were meant to be a higher star rating I couldn't believe our luck. Air conditioning isn't included but you can hire a fan from the local supermarket (a stones throw) for a few euros for the week.

I would most definately return and stay a the Ocan View without question. A GREAT HOLIDAY.

We booked a last minute holiday with Olympic Holidays.... we  had one room in the basement and one on the ground floor, we had been warned we might not have a balcony or view.... so we were not as disappointed as some people were!! The basement room was bigger so what we lost in balcony and view we gained in space!!!  Maybe the hotel should change it's name, then people would not be so disappointed in the basement to find the only view they have is of ankles and maybe a few knees!!!  The location is brilliant, not too near the tavernas and not too far away  and just a nice walk down to the wonderful Skala beach....  The hotel was very clean, and the rooms were serviced every day... we had breakfast too which consisted of bread,  jam, orange juice and coffee,  the supermarket is only 30 seconds away and it has everything... so we enhanced the breakfasts with cereal for the children and some lovely greek yogurt and honey for ourselves.  According to our rep Olympic Holidays won't have this hotel in their brochure next year they probably get fed up with holidaymakers complaining about the rooms in the basement I would have no hesitation in returning to the Ocean View Hotel..... I just wish we had booked for 14 days and not 7!!!

We booked a late deal with Olympic holidays...allocation on arrival (always a gamble) but we were fortunate to end up at the Ocean view Hotel in Skala. We had hoped for a self catering apartment, but instead we had a room with just a fridge on a B&B basis. Breakfast consisted of bread and jam, tea/coffee and OJ....so we bought some plastic bowls & cutlery from the local supermarket and had cereal aswell!! Couldn't fault the hotel, our balcony was a tad small but at least we had one - some apartments are basement level!! The hotel is situated at the top of a hill (not as steep as some people say) and its the main road down to the beach, lots of great bars/taverna's to chose from. Didn't have one bad meal! I would highly recommend that you hire a car that way you get to see the whole Island....you can see the whole Island comfortably in two days. Check out Melissani lake, the Drogarati cave and definitely pay a visit to Mirtos beach, its beautiful....just watch out for the 'nude' bathers!!! ha

I would highly rate Kefalonia if you want a nice relaxing holiday......lovely!

My family and I stayed in the Ocean View Apartments in late August 2005. We had a superior apartment on the top floor and the accomodation was excellent. The hotel complex was neat and tidy and not too busy. Of course, the clamber for sunbeds was a slight issue but hey, where isn't it during peak holiday periods?

I have been trying to find out whether bookings are being taken for 2006 as I can't find the hotel listed by Thomas Cook (who we traveled with) or any other tour operators. If anyone knows what the current position is, please drop me an e-mail at howiet@ylor1971.fsnet.co.uk as I'd been keen to find out.

Skala itself is a good base for holidaying on Kefalonia. We hired a car from Greekstones on two separate occasions to explore every inch of the island. The driving was great fun and the roads were in good condition. If you need car hire, do head to Greekstones in Skala. They offer the best service (thanks to Anthony and Myrto in particular) and put their rivals to shame.

If you're into beaches then you must visit those at Myrtos, Petani and Lourdas. Providing you get there early morning or mid-afternoon, they're not too busy. If touring around is more your thing, head to Assos, Lixouri (and take the car ferry over to Argostoli, its fun), Sami and Poros.

We had a great holiday and Kefalonia and the Ocean View Apartments cannot be bettered in my opinion.

Cheers,

Howie

Have just recently returned from 2 weeks at the Ocean View, had a great time. The hotel was in a great location, not too far from the beach, you get used to the hill after a while!! Easy walking distance to all the tavernas and bars.

We went self catering, although only used the fridge as you wouldnt really be able to make much using the hotplates! The room we had was great, it was on the corner so we got two balconies and a wonderful breeze blowing thru the apartment. The only downside was the noise from cars as they reved up the hill and the barking dog, which usually started at midnight!

The hotel public areas were very clean and the pool area, although not very large, was well located and clean. The pool was some days warmer than the sea!

Spent most days on the beach, a warning though - beware of some of the sun shades, they are made of a mesh material and dont give full sun coverage.

Did the trip round the island and decided that wouldnt need to hire a car as we were very happy with Skala. Went to the wine factory, which was a quick run round how they make it and then onto the tasting, if you buy your wines in the supermarket they are not much more than buying them at the winery!

Galaxy Supermarket just across from the hotel was great, never seemed to be closed and a little bit cheaper than the others, probably as its at the top of the hill. Makes a fortune selling cat food for all the unsuspecting tourists who fall in love with all the cats that hang around the building opposite the supermarket, until they take a swipe at you.... Some nights the cats got fed 7 or 8 times! and must be one of the most photographed things in Skala!!

All in all a great holiday, thanks Thomas Cook and Mary the rep for being there when needed but not hassling you to go on trips etc

Will certainly be going back to Kefalonia and to Skala

Staying here in June, can you help, do we need an adaptor for plugs, is a hairdryer provided in the room and whats the cost of eating out like??????

We stayed at Ocean View in early June 2004 having read comments on the site. Being fairly new to package holidays, it was a bit of a plunge into the unknown but we felt we did well with Ocean View. It's really worth going for one of the superior (top floor) self catering rooms- they're bigger have good ocean views and we were able to cook some good meals with ingredients are readily available at the nearby supermarket. If you don't fancy cooking, then the tavernas were all good value- particularly the plate-smashing one opposite Greekstones car rental! Probably the highlight was hiring a Hyundai Atos from Greekstones (recommended) and travelling around the island. Do get up to Fiskardo and Assos, both of which are very picturesque and watch the sailing set at play! Myrtos beach is also fantastic, albeit a total heat trap.

Ocean View is very clean - accommodation is standard basic Greek for a standard studio. Enjoyed our stay but a hassle if you are leaving on a late flight as you have to vacate your room at 10. You can rent a room in sub basement if you want for an extra 20 euros. Staff were OK, pool excellent, again very clean. We didn't eat breakfast but I know our neighbours were disappointed that it was only toast.

Just come back from two weeks at Ocean View going B&B - room was very cramped and in a very noisy position. Wished we had gone self-catering as rooms were much bigger and breakfast was nothing to rave about. However everyone was very friendly and it is immaculately clean, rooms are cleaned every day and beds made for you, clean linen and towels every third day. Air-conditioning was 7 Euros per night and safe 30 Euros for two weeks both a must but we thought pricey.
Sea view left alot to the imagination! Location meant everything was to hand and I felt able to go out on my own without any worries.

Ocean View is a great hotel and the pool is brilliant if a little on the small side, occupants of room 406 should take care going out to the balcony, if your over 5ft tall you will bang your head !youve been warned !The hotel is really clean and staff are friendly and helpful, i can reccomend this Ocean View hotel to anyone and Scala is a fantastic place.

We recently stayed in the superior apartments at the ocean view and being on the top floor could actually see the ocean. We thorougly enjoyed our two weeks and would definately return. The apartment was much bigger than any we have previously stayed in when in Greece and had air conditioning (although a little expensive at 49 euros a week) and a television (although all the channels were in German for some reason!) We rented a car for three days (which you do need if you want to see any of this beautiful island as the public transport is actually worse than that in the UK, if that is possible) from Greekstones and would recommend them to all. The only noise we encountered was from a dog on heat barking all night and the resort went a little crazy when Greece beat Spain in EURO 2004!!! We would recommend the Lamb Soulvaki at the Flamingo taverna, The Kilo of lamb chops at the taverna opposite NERO bar, and the onassis cruise. Although Greece's economy is suffering since joining the Euro we still found that many of the tavernas were very affordable. If you are staying at the ocean view, the hill does seem less steep the longer you stay there!!

One month ago I spend half an hour reading through all of the comments made about the 'Ocean View Hotel', and decided to book a two week holiday there, and I have to say it is a great Hotel!!. The accomodation comprises of three buildings, which surround the swimming pool. All of the sun beds were virtually brand new and incorperated an adjustable sun shade which is ideal to read under. The breakfast room and outside bar is also beside the swimming pool. The rooms are all diferent sizes, ours was a touch small. Some rooms have self catering facilities but we booked bed & breakfast so we just had a fridge in our room. We didn't have a bath just a shower. The breakfast was fresh bread, jam and coffee. The staff are very freindly and everywhere is kept very clean. There is air con but you have to pay for it, we payed on a daily basis at 7euro(£5) per day(you may not need it every night). If you are on a low to medium budget this is the perfect hotel. If you like top class rooms and lots of facilities you would have to stay on the outskirts of Skala.

We have just returned from Skala staying at Ocean View Apartments. We had a fabulous time as did our two children aged 6 and 8. It was very hot and the air conditioning was a must. The pool was great for the children, very clean and well kept. The apartments are ideally situated very close to the beach and town centre. The beach is great for children, I have never swum in such clear, warm water. There are even little fish to watch, though they do like to nibble at your toes.We hired a car from the airport which is a must if you want to see some of the island. We went with some Greek friends and they too love the island, it really is very beautiful. The children had to share a bed which was not ideal as they do not have 4 bed apartments. Perhaps bring one nice large towel as they are rather thin. We did not use the kitchen cupboard at all. Every morning we went to get fabulous crossiants from the local bakery. There are lots of great restaurants nearby and no one got ill from the food or water! We will certainly be returning one day.

Quality place! Well nice people working there, got free shots off the barman near the pool! The pool is just the right size and is lovely, also the hotel is situated just right - not to near and not to far away from the village centre. I recommend rentin a fan from a shop down the road on the right for 10euros a week rather than a hell of a lot more for air conditioning. I loved this hotel - me and my girlfriend saw the other hotels and we honestly thought ours was the best, book early for the better rooms! Watch out for the kitchen in a cupbord!

Linda F

Clean, comfortable, basic accomodation. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice pool, a little on the small side.

Graham V

We've recently returned from a 2 week stay at this hotel, and would thoroughly recommend it. Although relatively basic, it is very clean and comfortable. The most significant plus are the staff, who are helpful and courteous and even provided ice packs for my girlfriends sprained ankle after she fell of the kerb!

Hayley S

The Ocean view is a basic hotel but is excellent. The rooms have a balcony with table and chairs and air conditioning is avaliable at extra cost (£20 for the week) which I would reccomend as it gets very hot at night. There is a small pool with loungers and bar etc.The location is brilliant, 10 minute walk (if that) to scala beach and there is a supermarket just outside. All restraunts etc are on the way to the beach. I would reccomend hiring a car ( we hired a jeep) as then you can make the most of the island. all in all a brilliant holiday in a lovely hotel.
