Spent two weeks at the Socrates Apartment at the end of July/August 2009 the weather was very hot and in possible to sleep at night as the apartments have no air conditioning the up side for the Socrates Apartments is that they are outstandingly clean, spacious and in an ideal location.  Having the Big Village opposite was great as you have access to the pool and bar.

Just had our second stay at Socrates.  Rooms are adequate and well cleaned.  We have visited the island many times before and when in Skala, always eat in the taverna below.  They know us pretty well and we've always been made very welcome.  Isn't it sad that when you have a complaint, people's attitude towards you changes?  Basically we had no hot water for two days and when my husband mentioned it to the owner, he was made to feel very uncomfortable and almost called a liar.  They then said they had fixed it that day (which they hadn't) as the repair guy turned up the next day!  The rest of the staff then seemed to give us a wide berth!  Really disappointing as we like the place, but it means we won't go back.  If you go, just make sure you don't have any complaints!

This accommodation is spacious by Greek standards and no more basic than most other traditional studio accommodation. However it is probably kept cleaner than most - we had towel/linen changed twice a week with bin emptying in between. Brilliant location and not far to crawl back upstairs after eating far too much good food downstairs.

socrates is lovely, both the resturant and the apartments. the family in the taverna are great- really freiendly. my family and i have been going to kefalonia for 12 years now and  socrates has always been our favourite place on the whole island! luv ya socrates (anastacia and dementri and family) see you next year!
