Poseidon Apartments
(Apartments in Skala)

10/10 Beverley Holroyd (July 15, 2009)
Just had two glorious weeks in Kefalonia made all the better for staying at the Poseidon Apartments. They are basic as most are in Greece but very clean and well equipped. There is an oven and grill, two hotplates and sufficient cooking equipment (if you can be bothered, the food in Skala is the best we ever had in Greece) plus an electric kettle. You are supplied with complimentary toilet roll on arrival but after that you will need to purchase your own but so what, 1 euro in solomos supermarket, no big deal. Towels are changed every other day and the sheets were changed twice during our stay. Maria is like having your Mum around, just ask and she will do her very best for you. We had a problem with hot water on day 2, we were getting in off the beach at about 7.30 so we thought it may have been used up, Maria put the boost on for us and hey presto every night we had hot water. We will definitely return. Our apartment was number 8 and we had a beautiful sea view.

I am planning to stay in Skala for the first time this July, with three girlfriends at the Poseidon. Is this a good idea??! We don't want anything too noisy. That comment about a hill worries me.   Do you get the use of a pool closeby? How much have people been charged for air-con recently?

 Thanks jo

great place owners are very nice.great location clean and tidy. this year will be my third time no complaints.
it even has a bar and covered patio area.the drinks are cheap.and you always get a friendly hello when you come back from a hard days sunbathing. its not the ritz but what is ? and every room has a balcony! and if your lucky enough to get no 4 on the 1st floor september ish.you will see the white owls glide past, less than a metre away ,breathtakeing!. its  also a good base with only a little road noise if you are in the front apartments.the great thing is, turn left out of the poseidon go down the first left 100 yards and there is manolis.on the corner.its a hike on the way back up the hill but if you stop at half the bars and zig zag its no problem!!!

Myself, my daughter and my neice stayed here in august and found it very pleasant indeed. The staff were very friendly, helpful and curtious and really made us feel welcome. I knew it wasnt going to be the ritz, but we were very surprised when we go there and pleased. I would recommend the poseidon apartments to anybody who are looking for a nice relaxing holiday.

just got back oct 2006 skala beautiful as ever but would not recomend these apts Maria told me my 2 year old grandaughters disgusting cot made too much noise when she moved so to tighten it up! i had to ask for a sheet for the cot too, then the blind made too much noise in the wind because it was too far down, then she asked us to make sure the extractor fan in the, not so clean, bathroom was off on a night as she "slept very close" and it made too much noise so i checked every night to make sure it was off then a few days later, she didnt know i was in, found her coming in with a small piece of tape to put over the switch i told her it was not ours, she did come and say sorry the next day and said it was another apt. We got one toilet roll in 2 weeks 2 changes of towels in 2 weeks and the noise my other grandaughter and i had to put up with was appalling, in our bedroom was a none soundproof door it lead onto the stairway where other guests had to pass on their way to their apts . I love Greece and in particular Kefalonia i will be going again but not to these apts.

The apartment was basic as we knew before we left ,i was surprised when i saw the air con in the rooms because on the info there was no mention of air con we were very impresssed but it did cost us alot Confusedbut in the end it was well worth the money in the end coz some of us need our beauty sleep lol.The restaurants and bars were extremly nice and the beach was very clean. i would say we had a nice (RELAXED)holiday in the end i whould defenitly vist skale again!

Staying in the Poseidon Apartments is a great way to enjoy your holiday in Skala, Kefalonia. It is literally just around the corner from the town's main street with its bustling bars, fantastic restaurants - we didn't have a bad meal all week - and a good, albeit pebble-dashed, beach at the end of the road. The apartment was surprisingly quiet - it's tucked down a side road so you don't get many people walking past.

And you'll love Skala itself. There's a lack of buses to take you to other parts of the island but there are coach tours and many car hire places around (my tip: hire a car for three days or more because you pay extra when you drive for more than 100km with a one-day deal). I also advise you drink bottled water and hire a couple of bikes (€6/day each) because the scenery is breathtaking and you can take it in and get some exercise at the same time.

The apartments themselves are spacious. We had three rooms: a living room/kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. All were clean to begin with. The toilet doesn't let you flush paper (not untypical in Greece and so not a problem). But it was easy to get water from the shower all over the bathroom floor. There's a mop for that. There's a shelf above the sink. I banged my head on that when washing my face.  You'll get fresh towels at the beginning of your stay. But they were changed just once. You'll get one toilet roll. That ran out after four days and wasn't replaced at all - I'd brought my own, thankfully.

The bedroom was basic but clean with its own sizeable balcony. It had a double bed, a bedside cabinet and dressing table with stool. The living room/kitchen had an uncomfortable sofa, a harsh light, a fridge with a rusty handle, sink and microwave. The wardrobe was in the living room/kitchen area. The living room also had a balcony - a larger one with chairs and table - and ours was a brilliant sun trap.

The rooms became hot at night. The first night was quite unbearable. There is no air conditioning or even a fan as standard: the former is charged separately at €30 and the latter at €15 per week.

The rooms did not get cleaned over the weekend, which also meant the bucket in the toilet was not emptied on Saturday or Sunday. It was a bit annoying. And on the last day we were slightly late leaving the room and the lady owner of the apartment block was very rude indeed, telling us to go.

But I would stay there again. It was extremely convenient for town and was a stand-alone apartment accessible from the street without having to go via a reception. Other than being told to leave, we weren't bothered by the owners once. And besides, you won't spend much time in the apartment anyway because Skala is so nice. Take some towels and toilet rolls and maybe your own fan. And above all, enjoy.

We came back from Skala on the 19th August 03. We very very surprised at the size of the apartments. Bill and Maria very very helpful and plesant, giving our children home grown grapes. Skala not the best resort (our opinion) we had a car and much preferred the Northern tip of the island, Fiskardo was wonderful. We experienced earthquakes, forest fires and saw Logger Head Turtles, which thrilled the children. All in all and very successful holiday and a memorable one as well.

Hi Leon, yes that was us below, with the quiet kids the noisey ones were next door. thought you had hung your washing out, it dripped on my head!! Yes we did enjoy it and the longer we have been back and looked at the photos and watched the video the more beautiful Skala seems.

We arrived back from Skala last week having spent a fortnight at the Poseidon Apartments! Typical Greek accomodation really! Lovely balcony (well, 2 of them actually!) cascaded by grape vines but nowhere to hang any washing! The only negative point would be that when emptying the toilet waste bin, rather than throw the whole bag out and replace with a new one, they just emptied the bag!!! It became rather smelly by the second week when we realised and changed it ourselves! Plenty of power sockets!!! #

Hi Sue Bailey! I think you may have been the family in the apartment under ours!!! If it was the one on the left as you look from the road then you were!!! Hope you enjoyed your Holiday!!!

Just returned from 2weeks at the poseidon, we were pleased with the size of the 2 bed apt aswell as the 2 bedrm, toilet/shower and kitchen there is a hall entrance area great for dumping your beach & swimming kit when you get in! the apt. has 2 balconies which is nice.
But!! our apt was on the ground floor at the front and very close to the road which picked up alot of noise, so we didnt find it very quiet, other rooms at the back were ok. Bill was very nice but Maria told me off! we thought the bathroom could have been cleaner, location was ok near to supermarkets, 2mins from a pool and a nice stroll to the beach.
