We stayed in Elisa at the beginning of Sept.  For Greek apartments, we found them to be very clean, well maintained and more than adequate.  The grounds are especially nice.  In contrary to the posting below we found Lucia (the owner) to be friendly and entertaining once you build a rapport and talk to her.....a bit of a character!!  It is probably better for couples as there is no pool facilities or bar, which is great for proper peace and wonderful unspoilt views (see picture - get a top floor room for this)....you can use any of the pool bars, which are very nice too, just 5 mins walk away...try Makis who's staff are great.  It is a 15 min walk to nearest supplies, but plenty of restaurants on the way.

Our family have just returned from our holiday at the Elisa Apartments, Skala.  The apartments were regulary kept clean, although you are expected to empty your own bins in the communal rubbish bins partly down the hill.  The gardens were beautiful and well kept.  We had a great, spacious balcony with a lovely sea view.  We stayed in a 2 storey maisonette.  No air conditioning is available, so hiring a fan is essential - the apartment was extremely hot and stuffy.  The bathroom was typically Greek!  You bang the sink when you open the door and the shower soaks everything!  The lighting was very poor and electric sockets were sparce.  There is no kettle.  The main mirror was hanging off the wall and was placed under the staircase with poor light.  You are expected to hang your washing on a communal washing line.  The main steps leading through the gardens down to the road were fenced off, so it appeared a longer route having to go down the hill.  The road was very badly maintained and very steep so you if you hire a car watch out for the tyres.

The nearest supermarket is quite a hike, especially when you have to walk back up the steep hill with supplies of water and provisions.

The beach is only a five minute walk down the hill, the main village square of Skala (and supermarket) is about 2-3km.  The village of Skala is great and has everything without being too commercial.  The beach is beautiful, the sea is really clear with lots of fish, although it does get deep quickly.

The owner of the apartments (Lucia) could not speak a word of English and was always shouting. Her manner was rude and aggressive and I cannot understand how she can run a business with this attitude. However her daughter was very pleasant.

In all, we really enjoyed our holiday in Skala and would return here, however, not to these apartments.  The Elisa was better suited to young couples, not families.

We have just got back for our stay in Skala and stayed at the Elisa apartments, I would not recommend it if you have any trouble with walking as it is up a short but steep hill. However when you get to the apartments the views are fantastic. Rooms clean and of ok size (I have stayed in smaller) no kettle so do take one as I do like my coffee in the morning. We stayed in room 4 which is downstairs facing the well kept gardens, we never had a problem we Elisa in fact if we was sitting outside and she was tending to her garden we would often get fresh tomatoes and preaches from her which was nice.

But I must say these rooms would be better if they had air con or shutters on the mains doors as it can really get hot in the evenings. Another plus point to these rooms is that you are only a 5min walk to the beach and free pools and if you are after the quiet holiday at least 10 mins from the main part of Skala.

Me and a friend stayed at Elisa apartments in May 2005, the apartment was spacious and kept very clean, it was all you would need for a very pleasant base and cooking for ourselves wasn't impossible but there was only two rings. I would recommend going for a second level up apartment as the balconies aren't as private below. We were in room 12 which had an upstairs double bedroom and downstairs two single beds with a lovely balcony with sea view and views over the gardens. I can agree that Lucia (the owner) is pretty noisy but not overly so, its quite authentic to hear her rattling on but we did have a couple of runins with her, she shouted at me for looking at the chickens and insisted that we had lost a butter knife and made us pay, this was all quite tricky as she doesn't speak English and seems to get agitated if you don't understand her. If it wasn't for her I would say the place is perfect, its only 3-5 minutes walk to the beach and 5-10 mins into the centre of Skala, it is partly uphill but you don't need to be very fit to make it up there with no problems. Skala is really lovely but we discovered Poros while we were there which seemed far more beautiful and Greek, we will stay in Poros next time as Kefalonia is certainly worth a revisit, its gorgeous, hire a car you won't be disapointed.

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Skala and stayed at the Elisa apartments for one week. The apartments were clean and kept tidy and after battling with the short but steep hill to get to Elisa the climb was worth it for the views. However, if you’re after a peaceful holiday I recommend that you do not stay here. The owner of the Elisa apartments is by far the loudest and rudest woman I have every meet. I heard her voice as early as 6.30am and as late as midnight during our stay. On three occasions she relentlessly banged on our windows and door waking us from an afternoon sleep until we answered to shout at us about … well your guess is as good as mine, she would shout in Greek. Further more she is the owner of a cockerel and two dog’s which crow and bark in the early hours of the morning. I found the noisiest time to be between 6pm and 8pm which, if your like me and enjoy a sleep after being in the sun all day and before going out you have no chance … there’s gardening to be done and here that involves shouting at your staff, loudly. Skala is a wonderful place the restaurants are all superb and the beach is out of this world and I recommend you get yourself out there as soon as possible but when you do, don’t stay here! We spoke to other couples staying during the same week who had the same problem.

We stayed at the Elisa Apartments from 1-15 June 2004. The apartments are basic but spacious and very clean. The couple who run them are very friendly and welcoming and the setting provides you with the traditional greek experience. The rep for these apartments this year, Beth is extremely friendly and helpful. The apartments are some way from the main resort and require a walk up steps or a hill but this provides the kind of idyllic setting we were looking for. Noise from the resort is minimal. Definately not the place to take children as there is no pool. If you are a couple looking for a relaxing, peaceful holiday then this is the place to stay. We will definately be returning.

We stayed at the Elisa Apartments 2 may 2004. First ones in our maisonette. I understand it had all been upgraded, new windows etc. We had a great week. Walk up hill was pleasant on an evening and steps no problem. If the steps and hills keep the kids away, I am all for it. Lovely and quiet with no kids runnning about or crying. Eggs still on offer. Cant fault our hosts, or the rep Beth. Its the 2nd time we have been to scala and this holiday really made it worthwhile coming back again.

We stayed 2 may 2004, 1st couple in apartments. Been upgraded this year upvc now installed. Lovely apartments. very clean, plenty of room. Cant fault the rep either beth was lovely. Great view, we had a maisonette which had an upstairs bedroom. Been to Kefalonia 3 years ago and loved it the 2nd time. The Elisa made my holiday. Eggs still on offer this year. It was nice and quiet, I dont want kids running around. If I had I would have gone to a complex. Truely an adult only environment. Hooray 10/10

we stayed at the elisa apartments in May 2003. We had a fantastic time and are going back in Aug 2004. Lefterry and Lucia who own the apartments were really friendly and even started leaving us eggs for our breakfast in the morning. The apartments are very basic but very Greek - and isn't that what you go away to experience in the first place? We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

We went to kefalonia in May 03 and stayed at the Elisa apartments. It was late when we first arrived and to be honest we were a bit disappointed but, when we woke up in the morning we were pleasantly surprised. The grounds were beautiful and Lefteria, the lady who owned the apartments was really lovely. We found the apartments very clean. It is basic accomodation but this just adds to the Greek experience. We enjoyed it so much that we are going back there to stay in Aug 04.

We stayed at the Elisa for 2 weeks in May, we had a wonderful holiday and cannot understand the adverse comments. When we were there people were on return visits. It is quite basic but the cleaner did a very good job, the cooking facilities are limited but we managed. Would suggest you took a can opener and a sharp knife if you are likely to use them. The setting and the gardens are lovely and the brochure does say it is up a hill.We would certainly return again.

Has anyone else stayed at Elisa Apartments in Skala? I am booked to go there mid September. Please can you comment on accommodation cleanliness, etc. etc. Thank you!!

80 steps up a steep incline from the winding road is not much fun in the searing heat but other than that the place is kept pretty well clean (DIY with emptying the bathroom bins though). Very quiet. Solomos Supermarket is supposed to deliver your shopping for you but we ended up going back to get it the next day (24 hours later) only to be told by the same man who said he would deliver it that they had sotpped the arrangement.
