we have just ventured back from skala, kefalonia on tuesday having spent the memorable duration of 7 days at the liana apartments, and BOY what a time we had! Beach - spectacular
![]() Resort - fun packed
![]() Accomodation - clean as a whistle
![]() overall we had the time of our lives, being a young couple, with a low budget we had low expectations of the holiday we had booked (last minute) we were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the apartment, the friendliness of the people and the atmosphere of the resort. there is enough nightlife to keep you going but in no way too much, even for a family. however the road occasionly woke us, but is no way a problem, and as for the barking dogs, that is just greece for you. the walk to the beach is interesting and pleasant, however for some it may become a chore.
as for recommendations.......we found
siroco (restaurant) and captains (bar) and mythos beer(yummy) are a must!![]() highly recommended to YOU, yes thats right, YOU
![]() yamas! (cheers in greek!!!) ![]()

We've just returned from a weel in Skala at the Liana (late May, 2006). I'd read a lot of these comments before we left and was a little nervous about what we might find when we got there - but I have to say, it was fine. OK, so the little hotplate is no good for cooking, but we didn't use it anyway - we ate out everynight as it was so easy to do there. The apartment was perfectly adequate, and cleaned several times during our stay - we had no trouble with loo roll either. If you're expecting luxury, you're not going to get it - but if you want somewhere functional then it's going to hit the spot - no kettle though, so take your own if you need tea (we took one, so it wasn't a problem)... Skala is a nice enough resort - plenty of pools to use etc. The only downside of the apartment was there was some road noise at night, so we often had to sleep with the balcony doors closed - there was also quite a bit of noise from local cats and dogs, who seemed to wait until 30 minutes after you'd gone to sleep before they started playing and scrapping :)
We had no problems with cleanliness, changes of towels, or bathmats... so they've either improved since some of the comments were left, or some people are too fussy *grins*
There's a walk up and down the main road, which has a gradual incline all the way back to the Liana, but it wasn't too bad.... the novelty might wear off after 2 weeks of doing it though.
We were on the 2nd floor and I'd recommend not going for the ground floor if you are offered a choice - at least from the upstairs balconies you have some form of view.
Overall, a positive experience from a cheap holiday!

We stayed a week at the Liana apartments in October 2005. Although basic, the apartment was very clean and quiet (not much traffic at night in October), which is good as we had a balcony overlooking the road. The top floor has quite nice views out to sea, with stunning sunrises. The water was nice and hot and the bathroom adequate. There was plenty of room for the two of us, however, there was a third bed in the room and if that had been occupied, it would have been a bit cramped. The cooker is really only good enough for making tea or coffee, but Skala is a great place to eat out. The fridge was excellent, and looked fairly new. The only disappointment was that after three days our toilet bin had still not been emptied and we had to ask the rep to get it emptied, and as someone else has mentioned, they are a bit stingy with the toilet rolls. However, these are readily available and cheap at the supermarket just a short walk down the road.

The Liana is in desperate need of regular cleaning and changes of towels, bath mat and bed sheets. During our fortnight, the towels were only changed twice and the bed sheet once. The bath mat could only be described as disgusting and we discarded it into a dark corner after a few days. The floor of the apartment and balcony were only mopped twice and I don't think that any cleaning material or hot water was used. Toilet rolls were pinched from the store cupboard downstairs as they weren't replaced and the electricity kept going off. We were shown by another guest were the trip switch was but it was a little inconvenient going down the stairs to keep re-setting it. There is a lot of noise day and night as the apartments are situated on a busy junction and there is building work going on up the hill, therefore a lot of lorries taking materials to the site travel past on a regular basis. Not many locals give way at the junction so there is a lot of screeching tyres and revving of engines late into the night. The location at the top of the hill doesn't seem too bad at the start of the holiday but after walking up the hill two and three times a day in the heat, it becomes a chore. Skala is a lovely resort with a lot of lovely bars and tavernas. Hire a car and get around the island to visit other resorts, especially Fiskardo and Assos. We did the island tour and the Ithaka trip which were both brilliant but book them through CBR and not through your rep. Works out much cheaper. If we ever returned to Kefalonia, we would stay in Skala but definitely not at the Liana.

| All the liana apartments need is a bit of TLC.Not ideal for cooking but there are plenty of good tavernas just a short walk down the road. Yes,they are basic but that is Greece. The building work next door is finished! There is no hill on the way to the beach, just a slope!Skala is a great place to stay.Hire a car, have a good look round the island. You won't be disappointed! | ||||||||||

| Good location, top of main street, quiet at night, though as K Evans says, building work next door some mornings. Maid service not really geared up for number of apartments. Olympic guidelines mention rooms generally cleaned 2 or 3 times per week, we found ours were cleaned 2 or 3 days in succession then left for 4 days or so. Not really able to create culinary masterpieces with such limited facilities, cups of coffee were the limit, but all local restaurants very good anyway. Kitchen area in room 3 extremely cramped, room 4 better. Overall appearance slightly '70s. We had kids with us so needed regular clean towels, had to ask for them. Olympic rep Beth was very helpful and friendly. | ||||||||||

| Warning!! They are building right next door to the Liana Apartments and if you like an early start to the morning you will be oh - but the cement mixure and drill going off at 07.00 am didn't really impress us! We had no notification of these works prior to departure and although the rep was sympathetic noise still continues throughout the week. Apartments are extremley basic to say the least totally unsuitable if you intend to eat in. All bedding had a permanent damp feel which was not to pleasant. Kefalonia itself is wonderful and Skala a charming resort - can recomend the Galera taverna for its excellant food and wonderful Hosts Annie and Christos. | ||||||||||

| The brochure said basic, so what were you expecting? Clean, perfect for one good for two, I got the dreaded room two and it was not half as bad as the comments below made out. So the maid was stingy with toilet rolls? 1 euro from local supermarket, not enough towels take more, honestly, the only fault with Scala and Kefalonia in general, whinging Brits. The island is excellent, the food extensive and well prepared, go in September the weather was perfect.I have no complaints after booking a cheap holiday in good location. | ||||||||||

| STAYED AT THE LIANA AND BASIC IS THE WORD. OK IF ALL YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS SOMEWHERE TO SLEEP AND SPEND MOST OF YOUR TIME OUT. A GOOD POOL CAN BE USED AT THE OCEAN VIEW HOTEL JUST DOWN THE ROAD NOT FAR. PLACED AT THE TOP OF THE ROAD YOU ARE JUST OUT OF THE MAIN BARS AND RESTURANTS BUT DO GET A QUIET NIGHTS SLEEP NO AIR CON BUT FANS CAN BE HIRED OUT FROM MOST OF THE SHOPS. MAID QUITE STINGY WITH TOWELS AND TOILET ROLL SO THE BEST ADVICE IS TO TAKE YOUR OWN. IN RM 2 WHICH HAS A VERY SMALL BATHROOM NOT GOOD IF SUFFER CHLOSTROPHOBIA. | ||||||||||

| These apartments are LESS than basic - they are awful! When they say "use of a pool" this means a hike of approx. 3/4 miles down a very steep hill (which means climbing up again in the heat!!) and it would mean a day trip out to enjoy any swimming. There was no table/chairs at which to eat and NO air conditioning or even a fan which was essential in order to be able to sleep. It is unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties. | ||||||||||
