Old Village Restaurant - (Restaurants in Skala)

after reading about zorbas or'the old village' on these very pages we thought we would try it out! oh dear! first night of the hols not bad nice decor good service but very small portions and nothing special.went again for my b/d after befriending one of the waiters who said he had a special treat for me that night. had our meal chicken in yogurt, more like a birds eye chicken pie but alot more expensive! also steak in cream sauce that wasnt bad. desert time came and Harris the waiter appeared with a cake and candle for me! what a lovely gesture and very much appreciated until we learnt at a later date that the boss lady told Harris off for buying a cake out of his own money and giving it to us because in her eyes it meant we wouldnt order any desert from her menu!(even though the final bill came to over 60 euros)dont bother bringing the kids...not much of a kids menu, apparently the owners dont wants 'kids' running around their resaurant. one very positive note: John the cocktail barman is a magician...probably the best looking and tasting cocktails ive ever seen and apparently the man is only on 20 euros a night! if any bar owners are reading this then get over to kefalonia and snap him up!finally...if you want good service as well as good food pay a vist to the Flamingo...Harris is now working there and is a craftsman and a credit to his profession and country. thanks john and harris and the rest of the waiters at Zorbas for their hospitality.

Renieri Apartments - (Accommodation in Skala)

on arrival were pleased from the outside with apartments. room basic but thats what greece is about! It was our honeymoon and whilst we know what to expect in Greece standards wise we were a bit dissapointed that the bathroom was dirty and balcony was grotty (well it was our honeymoon)agree with comments about noise our place was at the front corner on the top floor (no 32)and we were awoken a few times by what sounded like coaches in the early hours( not to mention a rogue cockerel in the next field). otherwise good central location, nice clean towels and sheets changed regularly. Not recommended for loved up honeymooners! PS we were promised a gift in our room upon arrival...forget it, it aint gonna happen!oh yes...say hello to the lovely ginger tom who lives next door and sleeps all day on the overhead tarpaulin!
