We had three fab meals here. My partner was really impressed with the fish pie, and the veg mousakka as ever, was lovely. Spiros the waiter is still polite, attentive and friendly. The only shame is that the restaurant got quieter as the two weeks went on, down to people leaving the resort, butthe staff said that it had been a quiet year in general in Skala.
This is a fantastic restaurant with a nice eating area.

The food good but the waiting staff great. i went this year and the waiter with about a tube of gel in his black hair was so lovely and polite, he make loads of jokes some less funny than the others but non the less he was such a great guy, i cant wait to go back next year for another great meal and alot more banter with the nice waitor !!!

This restaurant is one of the best in Skala.  We remembered it from our last trip there and booked a table when we arrived this year for the next day as it was my birthday.  We were not disappointed, the food and service was excellent.   They made us feel really welcome and helped us enjoy a perfect day.  Their hard work and dedication obviously pays off as they are very busy.  We look foward to returning on our next visit!

Hi Anne and your lovely staff at Galera,we hope you are busy, busy, busy! And of course all well.
Sadly we wont be able to come to the best place to eat in skala as lve been off work for 3 months with back problems, which may result in an op,but if better by 1st two weeks in september we will hopefully come and have some sun and enjoy our evenings with you then.
Personally l think a kosti and a large piece of apple pie with a karaf of rose would work wonders and id be on my feet in no time.
Now this is for all the lucky people going to skala in 2009,if you get time one night at the beginning of your holiday go to galera, which is just off the main street on the right as you walk down the hill by the bike hire centre, then go,the food is fab,the kotsi, fish stiffado steak, and lamb kleftiko are but just a few you can choose from, and if you can manage it they do the best homemade apple and cinnemon pie and ice cream which funnily enough we always seem to managet. We have been going to skala for 7or8 years sometimes twice and end up going to galera probably 11 nights out of 14  even though there are plenty of places to go to,this is far by the best
Its not just the lovely food its the staff too, lovely Arris and wife Roula And Ellios,oh how lm going to miss your tricks and smile, and even the younger members Spiros and Helene are lovely.
Well have a brilliant year if we dont see you,oh and our greek isnt doing so well l think our agreement will have to go over to 2010.
Love and best wishes Louise and Steve*******

wow, what can we say, lovely, gorgous,,relaxing, and such a good place to eat and drink!

We went their probably 12 nights out of 14 nights,Why,well let me begin.
kotsi:pork on the bone that as soon as your fork hits the meat,it falls off the bone with fresh veg and potatoes, not for a light eater!
kleftiko, gorgous,as above the meat just falls apart and so scrummy. The whole menu,is great,as for the staff,Anne,Rula,Arris,Ellios,Elena,Helena are even better.
We went for two weeks, from 1st july 08,and the year before and before that, and it just gets better, its just heaven!
Cant wait to go back for a week in september, for more lovely nights at the Gallera!

Smile We have just come back from Kefalonia where we spent two weeks at the San Giorgio Hotel (super hotel and fantastic views).
Our holiday was made even more special when we visited the Gallera, the friendly staff and the excellent food was well worth it. I made my entrance by falling up the stairs which was very embrassing but Annie was very concerned and helpful.Embarrassed
Once we had found Gallera we did'nt go anywhere else. On our last night Annie even gave us a lift back to our Hotel. Thank you we all appreciated that.  The food you could'nt fault at all, mushrooms a la creme - perfect, and the Gallera special ice cream went down a treat.Smile
Malcolm's favourite was the Kotsi again perfect.
The staff and friendly atmosphere and hospitality is a sure sigh that we will be back, as soon as possible.
Thank you Annie and your team for making our holiday special, we hope to see you again soon.
All the best

Malcolm and Mary.

Hi Annie, Aris, Rula and the rest of the team.

Sorry about the delay in writing this, but I'm sure you will forgive us.

Well what can we say - Brilliant, excellent, wonderful, the best, good value for money,

the only place you should eat in Skala.

Yet again, we couldn't fault the Gallera.

We ate there 14 nights out of 14, on our trip in September 2007.

I took a particular liking to the chicken baveta, and Peter loves the kotsi. The four cheese gratin starter is heaven, I could go on and on.

To be honest we didn't have a bad meal, everything we ordered was gorgeous.

Unfortunately we won't be going to Kefalonia this year, but we will hopefully be back in 2009.

Take care everyone, miss you all.

Ann and Peter

We ate here one night out of our week stay due to the rave reviews on this site. The restaurant was very popular so there was a nice atmosphere and the food was beautiful but unfornately we were put off by one of the over friendly waiters - I like to be left alone while I'm eating and I also felt rushed when ordering my dessert.

The Gallera has been our favourite restaurant in Kefalonia since our initial visit in 1998.  We were back for our fourth visit this year (late Aug- early Sept) and enjoyed many delicious meals there.

Annie, Aris and Eleni make you feel so incredibly welcome and special!  Theirs is a genuine welcome, and the food and service is of the highest quality.

We have celebrated a couple of special occasions whilst on holiday in Skala, and each time have chosen the Gallera as the only place to eat on those evenings.  This year we were celebrating our 22nd wedding anniversary (and they said it would never last!) and after a wonderful meal, Annie arrived with champagne cocktails!  Then there was the Metaxa.. need I go on?

Anyway, all joking apart, whenever I am feeling a bit fed up (like now) I imagine myself sitting at the lovely table that Aris used to reserve for us, up on the balcony, and feel a lot better just knowing that I will be back there just as soon as I can!

Annie, if you are reading this, thank you for giving us the opportunity to dine at such a beautiful restaurant, for such friendly staff and such a superb range of dishes!  We will definitely see you next summer!

With our very best wishes,

Chriss and Stephen

I agree with every other comment here.  The nicest place to eat in Skala.  There is a great choice on the menu and Annie and all the staff are great.  Whether you choose traditional Greek or fish or steak, the standard is always high.

Wow!!! This was even better than we remembered.
It is a really pretty restaurant, especially if you sit on the top part in the summer.
I would recomend the Tsatziki which is gorgeous, and the Moussaka, (vegetarian).
It was a nice touch to have a warm bread roll served, and the waiters are polite and friendly.
ooh, try the chocolate cake as well.......it is amazing!!!!

We will return next year!!!

This place is fab, service is second to none. Watch out for the starters they are huge and filling, mind you the main meals are the same, and they some unusual dishes on the menu. A Lovely setting and would receommend this if you are very very hungry !!

Having visited  Skala in May 2006, we found this restaurant towards the end of our two weeks. We only hope he had found it first. On our return in September, there was only one place to go. Yes, 13 our of 14 nights we used this wonderful restuarant.

The menu is expansive and Arris, will always ask chef to prepare something else if your can't quite find what you want.

We could recommend dishes, but then again, we enjoyed them all.

The food, drink and atomoshere just the best.

We also thouht  it was very good vaule for money. However, on the odd night we managed to swell the bill somewhat, but that was due to the fact we did not want to leave and ended up over indulging with the need for a taxi to take us back to the hotel.

We saw many people returning to this restaurant night after night, surely the sign of a great place

We will be back in September 2007
Looking forward to it already

This came as one of our top tavernas this time. Food was excellent, staff very friendly and a nice relaxed atmosphere.
We especially liked the Alaska chicken and the chicken in mushroom and cream sause and the meatballs.
The banana splits are huge!!

We had a number of meals here (19th Sept to 3rd Oct 2006), including English Breakfast, Swordfish, Lambshank, Stuffed Tom's, etc. Food, wine and service all excellent. The taverna is situated in a terrific location and was one of the best we visited during our great holiday. This is a must try!     Roger & Mary Wakefield

By far the best Restaurant in Skala. Food outstanding and atmosphere great! Fillet steak with blue cheese and whisky was one of the best meals I have ever had. It's nice to be just off the main street and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely make a point of going again.
