Mi Abeli Restaurant - (Restaurants in Skala)

Doug P

We visited Mi Abeli three times for dinner during our recent holiday. (We returned to the UK on May 13, 2003) Each time we enjoyed both the food and the friendly and efficient service - all the staff were top-class and made us very welcome.

Good value-for-money and I would certainly recommend a visit.

Greekstones - (Car Rental in Kefalonia)

Doug P

We hired a car in Skala last week (7-10th May 2003)The car was clean & in excellent condition. (unlike the roads). Air conditioning is a must, don't save a few euros and miss out on the comfort.
We found Antonis was a better guide to Kefalonia than the travel reps! (and more fun too!)

I recommend this company for a good deal and friendly service.

Aeolos Beach Aparthotel - (Accommodation in Skala)

Doug P

We've just returned from the Aeolos Beach Studios after a 1-week vacation, (6-13th May, 2003). It would be very hard to find a nicer place to stay in Skala and helped us enjoy our most relaxing short holiday ever.

They are excellent - exceptionally clean, modern, well designed and comfortable apartments, most of which have balconies or patios with beautiful coastal views and there is a good-sized private swimming pool/sun patio.

There is also a small poolside bar where you can get drinks and snacks through the day (and probably into the evening during the busier times of they year). The gardens looked beautiful when we were there, with dozens of rose bushes and other shrubs in full bloom.

The family-run business has friendly, helpful and efficient staff who work hard to keep the place spotlessly clean at all times.

The small complex is situated almost on the beach, about 1.5 kilometres (1.1 miles) east of the Skala centre along the sea front and it's very relaxed and peaceful. Don't be put off by the distance from the town as it's a comfortable flat walk for almost the whole distance, but the final 150 metres up from the main road is fairly steep-about a 25% incline for about 30 metres of it. (It's not a problem if you take it slowly)

However, there are plenty of taxis available (despite some travel guides stating that there is only one taxi in Skala) and although the price has gone up - 4 euros - anyone with walking difficulties (or just feeling lazy)can get into town and back whenever they wanted to.

We walked it in both directions at least twice a day so it helped us from putting too much weight on during our holiday! The views are so good you'll hardly notice the journey.

This year they also have a very good restaurant, situated about 300 metres along the sea front from Skala centre (The Aeolos Restaurant, in front of the 9-Muses hotel). The food and service there was very good and it is well worth a visit. Their grand Breakfasts will keep you going for most of the day!

We had a marvelous time and aim to return later in the year. There are so many places around the world to visit and we try to find somewhere different for each holiday, but we'll make an exception for Skala.

Thanks to Kris, Athos and their staff at the Aeolos Beach Studios and the Aeolos Restaurant for making our holiday so enjoyable.

Thanks also to all the other people we met in Skala and all around Kefalonia for being so pleasant, helpful and friendly to us.

P.S. We've not had time to have our holiday photos developed yet, but I will post some ASAP.
