Poros Beach

Beaches in Kefalonia

The beach had lovely blue, clear waters, but was pebbled and quite crowded. It's location near the town was handy, but if you travel towards Skala on the coast road there are some even nicer beaches- uncrowded with amazing snorkelling opportunities- which are much better

We visited many beaches while visiting Kefalonia and the beach at Poros is beautiful - a calm pretty bay - crystal clear waters - one far side of the beach is pebbly - but there is plenty of sand up one end...and the scenery around Poros is beautiful - such a lovely chilled out place to stay...great restaurants dot the waters edge...we are huge fans of the restaurant 'Totolino' down the other end of beach...best food in Poros easy!

Just got back from a week in Poros, staying at Friderika. The blue-flag area of the beach is pebbles and a bit painful for bare feet, but otherwise great: when we were there, the umbrella + 2 sun loungers was 6 euros per day, there are loads of tavernas all along the waterfront so you don't have to go far for refreshments. The sea bed does shelve down but not too steeply and if you've got a mask and snorkel, there are are quite a few different fish for you to ogle at. A chap there warned us he had been swimming near the harbour area and got nipped by some eel-like fish (it didn't break the skin or anything), but we had no adverse experiences. Also, on a clear day you can see the mainland. We liked it!

It is not for young children as it has pebbles on the beach and getting in and out of the water was a little tricky. Flip-flops needed! The water was very clean and warm.

The blue flag beach was very nice. It was mainly small pebbles with a few patches of sand. Very clean. The sea was lovely and clear, a little bit choppy when the wind blew but most of the time like a mill pond. If you go, use the yellow beds that belong to the shop 'unique', Sonia owns them and Keith mainly looks after them, lovely people!! 2 beds & umbrella which are essential on pebbles & umbrella for shade costs 8euros per day (the same as all of the other sunbeds but better service!).Say hello to Keith for us! Another thing, as with all beaches on Kefalonia make sure you watch out for sea urchins that lie in the sand under the sea - they can stick in your feet & be quite painful, I wore flip flops in the sea & didn't have a problem, my husband trod on two - the best way to get them out (as Keith will tell you) is will olive oil, this brings it to the surface, I found it helpful to carry a saftey pin or tweezers to get most of them out.

The Beach is still great, although we didnt visit it as much this year! We have decided that the sea is much warmer here then at Skala, it's a bit more protected & sheltered! See you soon beach!
