Porto Helis Restaurant

Restaurants in Svoronata

Lauren D          10/10

We have just got back from Svoronata after a great holiday. We ate in Porto Helis a few times and the food was beautiful. Peter is the only waiter there. He works really hard and is so friendly. Unfortunately one of the nights, there was a very rude man who had ordered some food and was unhappy about the time he had to wait. He wasn't very nice and even made a little childish comment as he came past the restaturant after eating somewhere else. Unfortunately as I said Peter is the only waiter and whenever we walked past he was the only one there no matter what time of day or night it was.  It's a shame that some rude people have to show other English people up!! I would go back there again, and I definately wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for such wonderful food. Well done Peter!!!

Had a lovely week in the barbara studios next door and tried several restaurants and this was our favourite by far.Peter the lovely waiter went out of his way to please. The complimentary deserts were nice touch. The swordfish Kebab mouthwatering. The Friday night Greek night saw me dancing with the delightful local girls who were so friendly.A great atmosphere with great food and so cheap!!!!!I wanted to bring peter home!Hope to return. Thanks to all.

porto helis restaurant is absolutely gorgoeous for food.  i am a very plain eater so i did not venture too much into greek dishes.  my partner loved the food also.  very very big portions and staff very friendly.  peter the only waiter was just lovely.... if you get to know him and be pleasent you will get many presents from him ( deserts). just be patient as it can get quite busy around 8-9ish as he is on his own.

really enjoyed food.

after your meal you should head to the bar next door.  the premier league bar is owned by two of the nicest people you could ever meet.  matt and joanne are an english couple who moved there in march.  they are very accomadating and really friendly.  if you ask nicely matt might put dirty dancing on the big screen  he knows all the words!!!!

lots of drunken nights spent in there.

We visited Porto Helis twice on our holiday and it was definetely the best restaurant there. Very friendly and atmospheric. The waiter Peter was such a sweetie and came to our hotel to say hello  The portions are HUUUUUGE!!! and (as i have a small appetite) i made the mistake of ordering a starter of saganaki. This fried Feta cheese was delicious but is best when served between a table. The Tzatziki was delicious again if shared by the table. For a main course i had Souvlaki on both occasions which was delicious. We also tried the Kleftiko and Stifado which again were yummy. the only thing i regret is that we didnt have room enough for pudding  A fabulous restaurant which was reasonably priced with  EXCELLENT food. p.s if you try to speak a few words of greek (efharisto, parakalo etc.) this goes down very well

This restuant has the best range of  meals to satisfy all ages.  The portions are generous, the choices many, service is excellent. Just don't order a large pitza or you could be there all night.  Greek and English tastes catered for.  Nothing is too much trouble, jacket potatoes here are very good.  The wine is very  drinkable too.   We love it and will continue to visit twice a year for as long as finances allow.

What a great place!  We spent 4 of the 7 nights of our holiday here.  Costas is so helpful and really nice and friendly.  The service is excellent and you will not believe how far your money goes!  We will definitely come back to Kefalonia, hopefully next year, and will certainly return to Porto Helis.  We went in May and it is a great time to go before it gets too busy.

Must just say - the bacardi and cokes were the best I have ever had AND the biggest measures!!!

We tried most of the tavernas in Svoronata and thought this was the best overall. The food was very good, being mainly traditionally Greek cuisine, and some International dishes (I can definately recommend the giant mixed kebab, although you need a big appetite) The service was impecable, it is run by a family who originally lived in New York, so there's no language problem and the head waiter Christos was very attentive and polite, he was also only too happy to go through the dishes with you, even when they were very busy. The meals were good value for money with it costing an average of 30 euros for 2 starters/2 mains and a bottle of the locally produced house wine (which out of the other tavernas we thought was the best) Other holiday makers must have thought the same as this was always the busiest taverna.

Definately the best restaurant in Svoronata with very friendly and helpful owners and staff, Marie & Costas go that extra mile. We dined there about 5 nights. Souvlaki got my vote and if you like crepe's then this is your choice.
With reference the cats there are an average of 3/4 in any restaurant that you visit and porto helis is no worse than any other and anyway only a real glutton would not give a few titbits to them.

Mike S

still without a doubt the best in town. costas and maria were great .
the food as ever was super.

David W

By far the most extensive menu in Svoronata and some of the lowest prices without lowering of quality. You might not be a karioke person but the songs are more varied than any other I have ever heard. Also it round the corner from the main eating area. Try the shrimp saganaki it is a delight.

We ate here many nights as it was a short walk from our apartment, we found the food to be excellent especially the pizzas and giant mixed kebabs. The portions are big so small starters are a good idea. Panyoti and Costas are very friendly waiters and it was a good laugh to see Panyoti doing his turn at the Karaoke.

Lucie P

the waiters Panyoti and Costas were great and really friendly.
jayne the barmaid was fab.
the food was delicious and top quality.

Rick P

We ate here twice. The reception was good and as Costas grew up in America, the service was excellent. The food was acceptable, the Pizzas were tasty but the bases could be rock hard.

The chicken was fine and the home made chips with herbs were wonderful. The swordfish was well prepared and cooked to perfection.

The outdoor flowers attracted a lot of flying creatures and cats wandered around your feet all night. If you like cats this is fine but we would have prefereed that they weren't there.

The Karaoke nights were fun and Jayne the barmaid was a perfect hostess.

Message to Adele Finn. If you read my comments properly you will note that I actually rated the place highly apart from a couple of minor points. The issue of cats is particularly pertinent to me as I am allergic to them and have been ever since I worked in the fur farm...

I S

Can only echo the comments made by others. Very good food at reasonable prices.
Restaurant seemed to be aimed very much at tourists but include a number of greek specials which are very well cooked.Despite being a fair treck from our accomodation we visited on 3/4 nights & were never disappointed
Greek salad particularly good. Also enjoyed beef stifado

This is a very nice restaurant. The food is lovely but don't bother with a starter as the portions are very big. Costas, the waiter, is very friendly and helpful. On Monday and Friday nights the bar has karoake

Claire T

Yeah Mr. Mark! Have you any compassion for animals at all? There were only two cats so how much annoyance could they possibly cause? If you leave them alone they'll leave you alone and go to some other nicer people! Hiya Jane and Graham! (Well said Adele)

Laura N

This was a lovely wee restaurant with friendly service and great food. Would recommend the pizza but get a small! as they are big enough!! The open kebab was nice but the pitta bread was too greasy! Costas the waiter was a really nice guy. Next door is a wee bar which has karaoke on Monday and Friday nights but closes at 11pm (so not the best for partyers!!)

Jane P

further to my previous comments regarding porto helis,i too like anthony & claire would like to ask any visitors to feed the poor stray cats and lovely dog across the road and not to kick them up the backside as a comment read earlier. well done porto helis you made our holiday!!!!as did anthony & claire. love to all, jane and grahamxxxx

Adele F

this is a message to mr.mark heany{the school vegetable}!!!i take it you prefered dum speros to portohelis!!well i think that you are fairly dum yourself!!!!if you wanted a english roast dinner with all the trimmings i.e fresh vegetables, why did you bother leaving england??and also if you wanted a pudding, you should take a look in the mirror buddy!!!i find your sad comments rather amusing and also find it rather strange how there has not been any other negative comments about portohelis on this website, other than you and your vegetable/cat phobia!!!!!!!!!!!!!try sticking a toe up your own a**e!!!!!!!!!!!

Adele F

what is your problem??????????

Claire T

Porto Helis was FAB! Especially the karaoke nights, they were brill. Jane, Costas and Marie were excellent and really made our nights. Hey DJ Sammy!! Remember to clean your disks! Only joking, you were great too. Please feed the animals, they only want abit of TLC. And the little dog accross the road is gorgeous! We wanted to bring him home! The food was great. They had loads of vegetarian meals for me which was more than I can say for English restauants!!!! All in all we loved it.

Jane P

It was an absolute pleasure to dine and drink at Porto Helis. Jane always had a welcoming smile and is a real treasure!!!!! so thanks to you Jane. Costas is extremely helpful, well mannered and always obliging and the food is first rate (even the vegetarian). Please tip them well, they deserve it.

Mark H

Not quite as good as Dum Spiro's, but still very nice. Good quality and nice big portions, although the "fresh daily" vegetables (which seem to come with all main courses) reminded me of the nasty tinned stuff you used to get at school and weren't even necessary. The Giant mixed kebab is tops.

Annoying cats pester you for titbits, but a quick toe up the a**e soon gets rid of them.

Emma C

My family and i, ate here most nights. Costas and Panyoti were a great laugh. The portions were enormous and the variety was excellent. The karaoke nights were good fun and Jane the lovely barmaid is brilliant. Me and my husband stu are gonna go and stay in one of their apartments soon. We kept Costas and Jane up while 4am some mornings just talking and having a laugh. We had our 1st anniversary and my 22nd birthday there and i will never forget it. On our last night we stayed at the bar until 6am and we had to be out of our rooms for 9am. So Jane, i know u will probably read this, so thanks again for making our holiday a good 'un and for all the porto helis stuart style cocktails and tell costas we love him and see you again shortly.
