Island Tour by coach - (Kefalonia Excursions)

Trudy B          9/10

just got back from the beautiful island of kefalonia. we went  on the island tour with Kosmar which was 36 euros each picked up from the hotel at 7.45 what a spectacular day started of at the monastary of St grissimos then on to the robola wine tasting. then on to the dragoti caves and messilini lakes(which is an extra 8 euros per person) then a stop on the top of the mountain to look down on myrtos beach which is fantastic (if you get the time drive down its worth a visit)then on to Fiskardo this we did not like, its a long drive in a coach to the top of the island, yet when you get there its just a harbour with loads of yachts and snobs.....................and very expensive.............then there is a two hour drive back to the hotel its a very long day as you are in the coach for most of it. well worth it if you do not hire a car.but beware of the dragoti caves. there are 123 steps which are very high its alright going down but to get back up is a nightmare, only the fit to go down there.

Marabou - (Bars in Skala)

what a fantastic place! went there for the first time last week.....................fantastic food try their english breakfast  included is tea or coffee juice and ice cold water for just 7.50 euros

Veto Bar - (Bars in Skala)

Trudy B          10/10

great bar watched all the football theres huge t.v. screens the waiters are great and very friendly.

great place for people watching and suprisingly the loos were really clean.which makes a pleasant change from most places.
there was only one down side, the deli at the side was run by a bloke who was very unfreindly and his cooking was rubbish do not buy from there.....................

Eleana Apartments - (Accommodation in Skala)

Trudy B          7/10

just returned last week from the eleana apartments. a really nice place the rooms are spacious and the maids come every day to clean them and change sheets twice a week.there are no plugs in the sinks or bath............and there are no kettles grills or microwaves just a hot plate with two rings so when making a cup of tea it takes hours.................take your own kettle............

the pool area is very quiet as there are a loads of instructions of what you can and cant do........we were put of with the two guys behind the bar they just stared all day watching everything you did.they were really unfriendly................so most days we went to the beach..

also you do not get much sleep as behind the apartment there must be a few dogs as they bark all night long, and also behind is a house they are building and you get the noise from that banging all day
but all in all not to bad about a ten minute walk to the main area of skala, but beware coming back at night there are no pavements to walk on you need a torch as the greek drivers drive like mad men and it is hard to be seen
all in all clean place to stay...........

October - (Best Time to Visit)

Trudy B          9/10

just returned from skala we stayed first week in october

the up side......... not many people so could choose any reataurant and bar and not have to queue
plus the roads are empty all you see are the hire cars.............
also beaches very empty

the down side..........loads of wasps and mosquitos
plus most trips are empty so will not run them if they cannot get the people
wanted to go on the doughnuts on the beach but they would not take us as no one else to go on it...........
also everything was closing down that week.....so perhaps the last few weeks in september would be better

Myrtos Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Trudy B          10/10

what a fantastic beach we viewed it from the top, and then drove down to the bay.

a very steep hill to get down and going back up was in need on 2nd gear very hard to get back up..........
but once down there it was fantastic but you need rubber sandals as the beach area is all stones and rocks and hurt your feet.....
but what a fantastic bay.............one of the best ones ever seen

but beware do not visit the toilets, try and go before you attempt to go down................
they are just a great big hole in the floor..........yak..................

Melissani Lake - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Trudy B          9/10

went to the lake and found it very interesting you walk down a very steep tunnel and then you get on to a rowing boat.................the man in the boat was very friendly taking photos for the people on the boat, but it was a very short visit took about 8 minutes..................but it was spectacular if its a choice between the lake or the caves go to the lakes..........
