La Mer Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F

Have Girlfriend who knows the owners very well - service, atmosphere and food has always been excellant - certainly a resturant whose reputation is second to none on the island!

Lourdas Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Dave F

Found new beauty spot Just outside Lourdes Beach - has been spotted beside quiet pool areas and secluded beaches - been known to put other sights of beauty in the shade - and has been seen occassionly at night

Lourdas Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Honey P

Exclusive beauty spot close to beach - highly prized - much sort after - still found in shade on hot sunny days - has been spotted near pools and at night hip hopping across to livelier areas - desperately missed in the UK

La Mer Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F

Just returned back, after spending 2 weeks in Kefalonia. Ate at La Mer 4 times during my stay. Food was always excellant, service was great especially from Andreas who was always attentive and on hand to assist with the menu selections. Can especially recommend the La Mer specials of both the Lamb and the stuffed fish. Hopefully will return next year for more of the same.

Spiros Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F

Ate at Spiros, near the end of my second week in Kefalonia, Food was excellant, and the owner spiros was very welcoming and attentive to all of our needs. The menu was very extensive, and when arrived was delicious and hot. Can recommend this restaurent to all vistors to Lourdas.

Doodles - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F  (27 August 2003)

Ate at Tricolore during the first week of my stay. Food was great, especially the starters, which alre always my favourite part of the meal. staff was very attentive and didn't mind the children running around. Can recommend this restaurent to all vistors.

Trapezaki Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Dave F

Trapezaki beach is beautiful, loads of soft sand, gentley sloping down into the sea. Calm crystal clear water, excellant for children, great views of the mountains above - what more can i say - apart from I hope not too many people read this, as I would hate the beach to get too crowded for my next visit (hopefully next year).

Muses Cafe - (Bars in Lourdas)

Dave F

Drank at Muses virtually every night of my 2 week visit - the water pool for the kids to use fishing rods to catch toy fish was a great surprise and hit with the kids, although battles have been known to be thought over the fish lol Drinks are excellant especially the cocktails which are very strong and delicious. Service was great, always a friendly chat when taking orders. Surroundings were great, tables placed in little secluded areas next to plants for private chats with music not too intrusive. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice bar to take your partner and friends for a good night after your meal.

Astra Bar - (Bars in Lourdas)

Dave F

Drank at Astra on most nights of my 2 week stay, friendly staff to take orders, drinks were excellant - can recommend for a nice place to drink after an excellant meal.

Glass bottom boat trip - (Kefalonia Excursions)

Dave F

Went on the glass bottom boat trip on the last Saturday of my 2 week stay. Decided to book the trip through an agent, so can be picked up on a coach for the short trip to Argostoli to meet up with Captain Makis at the harbour. Could have booked direct (which may have been cheaper), but wanted to enjoy all the entertainment (including drink etc) without the worry of driving. From start to finish Captain Makis kept everyone entertained with useful information and funny comments etc. From leaving the Argostoli, the boat travelled around the coast line arriving at our first stop at a secluded cove on Rabbit island. Here we snorkled, dived for champagne bottles, kindly thrown by our happy captain. The waters were beautifully clear and only around 2 metres deep to view the bottom - Fantastic. Then all back on the boat for more commentary from our Captain before arriving at our final stop on a nearly secluded beach for games and our barbecue. I say nearly secluded, I wonder what the couple thought after they found there perfect beach spot, only to be confronted by 50 or so excited happy people with kids, wading from the boat to take claim to their spot lol. The Captain persuaded all the adults to play volley ball in the sea, from a rope and net errected from the boat to the shore. It did not take mush persuading as on this trip most of the other people were up for loads of fun and games. After a long extensive game of volley ball (which the team I was on won by the way lol). The food was ready to eat on the beach which consisted of meat kebabs & greek salad, unlimited amounts of wine for the adults, juice for the kids. Excellant food. Then the Captain supplied us with a massive bucket of bluey green mud to liberally apply all over our bodies to dry in the sun before washing off in the sea. This mud is meant to soften and condition your skin, which it certainly did, but beware your skin afterwards could give you pins & needles for a while. After what appeared to be over 3 hours on the beach, we finally waded back to the boat for our journey back to Argostoli. During this return trip, the Captain insisted on all of us joining in on the Karokee session, which was great fun for all the people who joined in (especially the Harlow posse) I have to admit to having more than my fair share of the microphone - so apologies now for any damaged ear drums, especially on my solo effort (or was that killing) of the Frank Sinatra classic "New York New York" - Soory Frank - after hearing my version, he must be turning in his grave lol. I would recommend this trip for anyone who is up for a laugh and wants to have a full day of fun with other like minded people. My only complaint (which is directed at myself) is that I was unable to have a photo taken with Captain Makis and my partner with our kids to show to our friends. Hopefully will return next year to remedy this problem.

Drogarati Cave - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Dave F

Not sure what the previous comment was all about - I saw what I expected to see, and enjoyed my visit very much. Yes there was lots of people there, but this added to the visit, the steps down to the caves, were quite steep and in places slippy, but not dangerously so. With myself and my partner, we had three kids ranginging from 8, 7 and nearly 3. all the kids loved going down (not sure about the return up the steps lol) the view of the cave was fantastic. Afterwards the free use of the pool was a welcome relief from the heat, and was spotlessly clean. I would recommend this short visit for a break away from the beaches etc.

Melissani Lake - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Dave F

Visited the lake on the second week of my holiday, had a little queue in the tunnel leading down to the lake, but as the weather was very hot, the tunnel was very cool, and took some great pictures as we got closer and closer to the opening to the boats and the lake. The lake looked fantastic with the sun shining down onto the water at the eginning of the boat trip. This made the water shine a brillaint blue before heading into the main part of the dark part of the cave in the lake. My only disappointment is that the other boats appeared to have some great oarsman who sang and laughed there way through the short boat ride. Unfortuntely our oarsman appeared to be a strong silent character who grunted a few words of greek & broken english and the occasional little greek verse (when taunted by the other oarsman), but at least he did not mind having his photo taken to remember him by lol I would recommend this trip for a short visit to see a beautiful lake, and hoefully experiance some great singing

Lourdas Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Dave F

I thought Lourdas beach was ok, but not as nice as other beaches. It seemed to commercial with most of the beach covered in sun beds which are rented out to you as you sit down on them for the day. At the day i visited the beach was quite busy, and due to this there was lots of litter in the sand which was not nice to see, as other beaches did not have this. The beach is quite stoney and I though the sharp drop as you walked just a few yards into the sea was quite dangerous for the kids, and a life guard was on duty - which made you aware of the dangers of this. Overall I thought the beach was a little over rated but it had a reputation for the beach to be seen at for posing your best assets to the locals. Perhaps I am a little too old now to be doing this now lol

Klimatis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F

Visited Klimatis twice during the 2 weeks of my stay, Marina the owner was very welcoming and the staff was very friendly during both of my visits. I had been informed that the food was Excellent, but it seemed that on both of my visits I must have ordered the wrong food for me, as I found both the meat dishes - one with lots of onions and the second - the Kefalonian meat pie not to my liking. The starters though was excellant, and I should have asked Marina her advise before ordering. The restaurant was beautiful to sit in with grape vines & other plants making up the roof and a wonderful bar serving great cocktails next door. Despite my main courses, I would still recommend the Klimatis for a place to eat.

Crystal Palace Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F  (28 August 2003)

Ate once at the restaurent during my stay - food was very good, but felt that the service could have been better, perhaps it was an off day, as they didn't seem too pleased to see us with our kids. From the previous comments, i would still recommend for a good meal. and some lovely views downs to the coast line.

Klimatis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Dave F

I have just re-read my comments, and feel that they could have been understood as being negative about the excellant food served at this restaurent, which is not the case. On both occassions of visiting this restaurent, I thoroughly enjoyed the starters, and should have paid more attention to the main course selections (as I am not a food lover of both onions or meat pies).

As mentioned before Marina and her staff are very welcoming and helpful, and it was my mistake not to take advantage of this kind and helpful service to better choose from the extensive list of main dishes available. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurent to anyone visting Lourdas, especially as the restaurent is just across the road from the main stretch of sunbeds on the beach.

I hope I have not offended Marina or her staff with the previous comments, as I hope to return again soon and sample more of her excellant food, and sit and relax in such a beautiful setting looking over to the sea from her restaurent.

Lourdas Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Dave F

I spent a truely wonderful relaxing 2 weeks just outside Lourdas, staying at my partners family holiday home. I would recommend Lourdas & Kefalonia to anyone (except that I do not want it to become busy). I want it to stay a quite, low key island, as not to spoil it's beauty and charm.

The island is just spectacular in its beauty. Very mountainous in places, but also very lush and green in others.I found the people I met, very friendly, restaurents and bars a joy to visit to sample some traditional & not so traditional food and drink.

The beaches are just breath taking, with the sea so crystal clear and inviting to cool off in the heat of the day.

I would recommend hiring a car (with AC) for a few days to spend some time away from the main resorts to really see Kefalonia as it used to be - tiny villages, cafe's, long twisting winding roads etc. To enjoy a much slower pace of life, to make you realise, that their are places to go and see that makes our way of life in the UK appear truely mad with all of our hussle and bussle.
