Panorama Village - (Accommodation in Lassi)

Ruth S

We thought these apartments were excellent. We were lucky as we got number4 which is on the first floor with a sea view, but compared to other s/c apartments we've stayed in on previous Greek holidays the Panorama Apartments were lovely - clean, brand-new, and surprisingly well equipped with crockery and cutlery. OK, it was a bit of a steep climb back up the hill, but as we usually did this after returning from the beach at the end of the day it was a lot cooler then. You basically have to plan to spend all day out and return late afternoon/early evening, really. It took probably about 10 minutes to get down the hill to Lassi main street, and then another 10 to get down to the beach. Going up it took about 15-20 minutes. The pool and its bar were really good (if a bit chilly!) and we found it a perfect location to explore the rest of Kefalonia from (we hired a car for 2 days).

First Choice - (Tour Operators in Kefalonia)

Ruth S

Generally the holiday was excellent value for money but the great time we had was despite, not because of, the First Choice rep in Lassi. Most of the advice we gained from her was next to useless, especially about the 2-hour coastal walk from Lassi to Argostoli (where were the "lots of places" to stop for an ice-cream/drink/swim along the route, I'd like to know???!).
Also, the transfer was not handled very well either way - we weren't told we'd be hustled off the bus and have to wait around in the midday sun for a taxi the rest of the way (which added probably another half hour at least to the original transfer time of 20 minutes). On the way back they seemed to be equally as disorganized. After check in everyone tried to board their flight only to be turned back because we were too early. The reps at the airport didn't seem to feel the need to let everyone else on the same flight know, however, with the result that people had to queue twice to board their flight. To anyone who is wondering about whether to go with First Choice, I'd say you're OK as long as you've got a lot of patience, common sense, and are happy to get on with your holiday by yourself.

Forgot to add about these apartments - one of the main benefits of their location is that you can walk to Argostoli in about half an hour rather than take the 2-hour coastal road. We did it one evening and it's actually downhill most of the way.

Lassi Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Ruth S

Lassi is an excellent place for basing yourself to explore the rest of Kefalonia. It's purpose-built for tourists, but having said that I've been to far tackier places, and it's actually quite laid-back as a resort, not many loud nightclubs (if any!) We only made it as far as the Long Beach, but that was more than good enough for us, as it's the quieter end of the beach, plus it was close to the Laguna tavern where we went almost every day for lunch and were never disappointed at the quality of food or the size of the beer (we are devotees of Mythos)!

The best restaurant we went to was the Monte Nero - at the very far end of Lassi, but worth the walk, and when we were there a Greek family was having a function at the same time so we got to see and hear some great Greek dancing and music for free. We also had fantastic red snapper at Da Veronica for only 7 euros (including a starter). Oskar's was a definite experience - haven't laughed so much for ages. Whoever compared it to "Phoenix Nights" was spot on...

As for the rest of the island, we loved Fiskardo, and on the way back we stopped off at Myrtos Beach for a couple of hours (which was OK, but actually not as good as Long Beach in Lassi) However, for a week's holiday we were quite happy to base ourselves in Lassi. We did the 2-hour coastal walk from Lassi to Argostoli, which was nice but quite taxing in the heat, and for the first hour there isn't really anywhere to stop for refreshment, except one hotel by the roadside which was offering free use of their swimming pool. We also took the ferry to Lixouri from Argostoli which is very good value (although there didn't seem to be an awful lot to do in Lixouri itself) We only ate out once in Argostoli (Aenos restaurant, which enticed us in with free wine and after-dinner coffee, and which did delicious crepes and Spaghetti Di Mare) as there was quite a lot of choice in Lassi.

All in all, we had a fantastic time and would definitely go back, and this time go for longer!
