Pines Too - (Bars in Skala)

Billy-joe   (23 July 2003)

We ate at the 'Pines Too' on one of the first nights of our holiday, and although
the setting was beautiful we were not convinced by the restaurant itself! The
menu was nowhere near as extensive as its older brother 'The Pines' and the
quality, although perfectly acceptable, didn't seem up to scratch either! My
girlfriend opted for a pasta dish, but checked first with the waiter what type of
pasta it was as the menu didn't say (she doesn't like spaghetti!). The waiter
said it was macaroni and so she ordered it! Upon its arrival it turned out to be
a big mound of spaghetti!!! We asked the waiter, pointing out that he had said
it was macaroni and he just laughed and said "macaroni, spaghetti, its the
same!" Although he did change the dish for an alternative he wasn't
particlarly friendly about it! The pianist certainly had his own unique style of
singing but was entertaining and added a nice romantic touch! Worth a try for
food but maybe better just for drinks!

Forgot to say, Nikos the pianist really does look like Alf Garnett!!!

Mikelatos (Scandinavia) - (Restaurants in Skala)

Billy-joe

We visited Scandinavia twice during our holiday, and both times enjoyed a
lovely meal with good service and at a reasonable price. The beef stamnaki
was mouthwateringly delicious, and the sausage alla scandinavia appetiser
was pretty damn tasty too!!!

Argostoli - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Billy-joe

Visited Argostolli around midday, and after parking our little Atos took a stroll
alongside the harbour. Upon glancing at the water we were shocked and
delighted to see a turtle emerge, swim towards us, gracfully turn around and
disappear back deep into the blue water! It really was one of those moments
that made our holiday so special. As for the town itself, it was very much like
Zante Town, perhaps a little nicer, and very hot walking along the nice
pedestrianised bit! The causeway road that cuts across the harbour is mental
to drive along!!!

Mi Abeli Restaurant - (Restaurants in Skala)

Billy-joe

Nice reasonably priced restaurant! I ordered the Lamb Mi Abeli which was
supposedly cooked in the foil! Well, I couldn't swear that it wasn't cooked in
foil but it certainly wasn't cooked in the pristine uncreased peice of foil it
arrived in! This sort of made me sort of suspicious! It was fairly tasty
nevertheless! My girlfriend had the tortellini which she said was delicious!
However it was a giant portion, and when she was only able to eat half of it
the older waiter, possibly the owner, seemed very upset that there was
something wrong with it! Despite reassuring him that it was lovely, he was
adament that my girlfriend should order an alternative! Eventually I think we
convinced him, but we still left the restaurant felling a little guilty! To show him
that we really liked his restaurant (which we did!), we visited a few nights later,
and were surprised that upon requesting a smaller portion of tortellini, the
very same waiter said this was not possible since my girlfriend was over 12!!!
Still a nice restaurant though, if but a little inconsistent in their level of
customer service!

Noufaro - (Restaurants in Skala)

Billy-joe   (25 July 2003)

Tried this restaurant on our first night. Lovely garden setting reminded me of
some of the great restaurants in Kalamaki, Zante. However, the food was
fairly unremarkable and we didn't give it a second chance!

St Georges Castle - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Leon T

We visited on 17/07/03 and the castle was fully open! Very hot up there, but well worth a visit as the views are fantastic, plus it's free!!!

Poseidon Apartments - (Accommodation in Skala)

Leon T

We arrived back from Skala last week having spent a fortnight at the Poseidon Apartments! Typical Greek accomodation really! Lovely balcony (well, 2 of them actually!) cascaded by grape vines but nowhere to hang any washing! The only negative point would be that when emptying the toilet waste bin, rather than throw the whole bag out and replace with a new one, they just emptied the bag!!! It became rather smelly by the second week when we realised and changed it ourselves! Plenty of power sockets!!! #

Hi Sue Bailey! I think you may have been the family in the apartment under ours!!! If it was the one on the left as you look from the road then you were!!! Hope you enjoyed your Holiday!!!
