Hara Studios

Accommodation in Katelios

Julie C          10/10

We stayed at Hara studios sep 2010 and are going back end of August this year with son daughter and my mother. We had a great holiday the bungalow we stayed in was very clean as was the pool and the surounding grounds.Every kind of plant, tree, flowers you can think of. Hara works very hard keeping everything clean and is very welcoming. There are a few cats there but they do not intrude unless you want them to, we love cats and brought biscuits from home for them. The village of Katelios itself is small and friendly and we did not have one bad meal when we were there, we especially liked Jerry Elinikos the Bekre Meze is to die for! Dreams taverna along the beach do lovely home made quiche, nice for lunch. Alitis bar was always first visit of the night and Nemisis bar has a singer on a Saturday night, Cosy bar also has good music. Music bar was good also but closed for the season when we were there last year hopefully it will be open this time as we are going sooner We cannot wait to return and visit this lovely little part of Kefalonia!!!!

We booked via Olympic, big mistake, the flight was 3 hours late, the coach transfer (no aircon) took 3 hours, with a trip via Lassi and Lourdas resorts to drop/collect other travelers.

The Hara studios are nice, with a small kitchen, and a slightly under stocked utensil array - 1 frying pan, 1 casserole pot, various knives/forks and a few cups/plates.

The quantity of feral cats is too high, they are scraggy items, and happy to attack with claws should food be offered, I'm not sure they are free of fleas either.

The rooms have aircon, Hara herself seems reluctant to hand over the controls, even though 75 euros in cash was to be paid, other arrivals had to wait 2 days to get the aircon, in 40 degree heat it is required!

Also the pool seems to get many dead flies/wasps on the bottom, maybe if the pumps ran all day instead of for a few hours this wouldn't happen.

Take a torch, the road route to the village is busy, and at night unlit, as is the track to the 4 brothers taverna/nemesis bar/mythos pool area.

You will be self-catering at the Hara Studios, but more likely eating at tavernas every night, allow 20 euros per person per meal, that soon adds up, there are no fast food/snack outlets.

There are no ATM machines in Katelios, the one in Skala works part-time, though 1 supermarket in Katelios will do you cash off your visa card, for a 5% charge.

There is no chemist/pharmacy either, and the Skala chemist can be shut with no reason.

We didn't hire a car, maybe we should have, but if its a chill-out holiday I don't wish to dodge and swerve with all the Hellenic powermax brigade and lunatic bus drivers.

Would we go again? No, we would rather visit Zante where we had a much better holiday before, at a better price and paid less through the stay on extras, but I suppose Kefalonia has other resorts too.

I dont know what the bug and the sea monster are but they all have stings or teeth

We have just come back from spending two weeks in Hara Studios. Hara herself is so friendly and helpful and she keeps the studios very clean. Nothing is too much trouble. We adopted 7 cats and a litter of 5 kittens when we were there! We had a car for the two weeks but the village was five mins away. A beautiful, sleepy fishing port. I think we saw everything in two weeks. Fiskardo is slightly overated, Assos was beautiful. It is worth a trip to the castle on the Argostoli road if only to stop off at the cafe at the top. The chicken baguette is fab! Run by Greek husband and English wife.

Just spent a week at the Hara apartments.Life just does not get much better than this.Reccomend taking an island tour and if you are a confident driver (and passenger) then car hire would open up so much more of this stunning island.Katelios is small, friendly and the food is amazing at all of the beachfront tavernas.

Had a lovely holiday in these apartments in August/September 2005, despite local dogs barking at times.
Not the easiest place to find when arriving at night in a hire car.  Coming in on the Argostoli to Skala road, don't take the right hand turn into Katelios itself, but go round the next two left hand bends and, as the road curves to the right, take the small road (?track) facing you, followed quickly by a left hand turn.  The studios are on your right.  Hello to Andrew and Karen and their super girls, who we met on our first week.

Ashley H

Jean, studios have kettle, but I seem to remember the 2 person apartments have a pan and hob to boil water

Jean B

Please can anybody tell me if a kettle is supplied at the Hara Studios or will I have to take my travel kettle.

Have just returned home (13/08/2005) after a delightful 2 week stay at Hara Studios. Initially, the apartments may seem a little out of the way but don't be deceived, the village of Ketalios is only a 3 minute walk away (5 minutes on a hot day), and they are an oasis of peace and quite. The rooms are simple but very clean and comfortable.  They are cleaned every other day and the bedding and towels changed regularly.  Hara herself could not be more friendly and helpful. The pool is smaller (but not too small) than many in Ketalios, but it is quiet and a godsend during the heat of the afternoon or on your return from a days exploration.

I would thoroughly recommend Hara Studios to anyone except clubbers, lager louts or those with a phobia re cats (there are a few around but they just add to the atmosphere).

Returned from hara studios on 17 july 05 and miss it already it is our third visit

and can not fault it it has its own pool and no bar so it is ideal as a base to relax and unwind prior to exploring this beautiful island. the apartments are clean and well maintained by Hara who is very friendly.

It is away from the main road into Katelios and as such is very quiet there is a supermarket a 3 min walk away through the next apartment complex past its pool and bar but the noise does not reach Hara studios.

Hi - Hara studios are clean and well-kept throughout, as is the pool area. It has the advantage of NOT having as pool bar, which means you don't get all and sundry coming to nick your sun loungers. If you want a pool bar go to the Blue sea and nick theirs!

Beach is fine - it's an EU Blue Flag one, but admittedly not 2 miles of unbroken white sand. Try walking over the cliffs (quite low!) to Kaminia Beach (go to Katelios Beach, turn left with sea on your right). It's about a 20 minute walk, but fantastic (and sparely populated. Have a great hols - we're returnig for the 3rd year in August

Thinking of booking two weeks in Sept 05 at Hara Studios- can anyone tell me what the rooms are like please (any dark dungeons?!) Also I've read that the beach isn't great (cleanliness? Seaweed, wasps etc). Would really appreciate hearing from someone who's visited. (asap, as due to book!)

Many thanks

Sam D

Does anybody know if the Hara studios / apartments are available to book accommodation only? If so, is there a contact address or email etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

We have just returned from Hara's studios - a fantastic place to stay. Hara met us and made us feel like old friends as well as being there at 7.30 am to bid us goodbye this morning. Rooms are spotless, linen is changed frequently and the setting is wonderful. Roll on next year!

Ashley H

We've booked at Hara this year - it sounds wondrful. Can anyone describe where it is - say, in relation to the duckpond or to the mini-market?
cheers.

We stayed in Katelios last year and it was fabulous. We're looking to return this year and have been thumbing the brochures - there seems some confusion over whether "Hara" has its own pool or shares with other apartments. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks. Ashley Hathaway

Vicky and I returned from Katelios on 23rd August. Our first time to kefalonia.Wow,we were greeted by Hara and shown to our appartment. Hara was great. The appartment was lovely and clean, the pool was an added bonus, we had a lovely balcony which at certain parts of the day was shaded - believe me it was needed. We are going back next year. Anybody going there needs to know about a young kitten who Vicky named Robin. We knew him when he was really poorly , so the obvious thing was to feed him and pass the message on so he has chance to survive the winter. PLEASE! We recommend these appartments
