Dionysos Taverna Menu - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Gavin E

Returned here after 3 years break. Nothing much changes (only the fountain doesn't work!). Food still good, service a little slower, but the atmosphere is wonderful. On the Monday night they had a live Venetian style music evening. All desserts come with a sparkler attached. The prices are the best reason to go here. Much cheaper than some of the sea front tavernas.

Klimatis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Gavin E

This was convenient for us as we were staying in the Ionian Sun. Lovely location on the sea front with vine covered dining area. The food we had was good, pastas were large portions. The only bad points were, no children's portions until a children's menu mysteriously appeared on last night but one, and we were told by someone who had eaten there that a dish she had consisted of Chicken carcass with little meat on it (when they complained they were told that was whta they had ordered). We had no problems having covered a good deal of the menu over 2 weeks. The homemade garlic & herb butter that comes with the standard bread is wonderful. I would recommend a visit to the bar for a cocktail one night, Pina Colada was great.

Lorraines Magic Hill - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Gavin E

Hmmm well what to say about Lorraines Magic Hill. This was the slowest, most expensive place we ate at although the food we did have was good. The location is just great, set just up the hill overlooking the sea. The 1st time we ate here we got there quite early, only 2 other tables taken, but it quickly filled. Food came after a longish wait by greek standards, we gave up wating for someone to ever take an order for dessert & left (2 waitresses stood doing nothing whilst we sat there with an empty table). The 2nd time it took an hour from ordering to the food arriving (this was quick that night, another family told us they saw us there that night & their's took 2 hours & then 1 dish was not cooked properly ie fairly raw). I did hear that they received an appology later in the holiday when they went back & were told that the staff were being told to improve. There is a children's menu. On the whole overpriced & slow. Could do better.

F Zeen (Ionian Sun) Hotel - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

Just returned from an idyllic 2 weeks at this hotel. Great pool & bar. The bar has sky tv to keep up with the cricket & football and large beers are 2 euros (oh & there's ice creams for the kids + it serves food snacks etc.) The hotel is well placed for the beach & tavernas on the sea front. The staff are v. friendly, especially Angela in the on site minimart, which is well stocked for self caterers. Couldn't fault this hotel at all (even heard they are refurbing the sea front appts this winter which should make it even better). Would seriously consider going back next year it was so good.

St Georges Castle - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Gavin E

We had a great time scrambling round walls & down dark holes (must take a torch next time to see even further down the dark holes!!). The views are excellent, worth a visit just for these alone. We even did our own 'Time Team' looking at shards of pottery we picked up & guessing what they were for (to amuse my daughter of course). To cap it all The Castle (To Kastro) taverna by the entrance was just great. We had lunch here before we went round, came back another day for afternoon tea & cakes to die for, then we returned for an evening meal too. Nicki & Spiros were wonderful hosts giving my daughter a complimentary ice cream & we had a coffee each.

Manos - (Tour Operators in Kefalonia)

Gavin E  (18 August 2005)

Couldn't fault Manos & the My Travel flight. Some of the best in flight food I've had & we got back to UK 50 mins early. Rep Claire was informative & always around when she was supposed to be. Not that we ever had any need to speak to her as everything was just perfect.
