Aristomenis Studios - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

Alison O

Clean, spacious studios with stunning views over the sea and a decent-sized pool. The Friday-night barbecue is well worth it. Location-wise, you need a car if you want to go to the beach. The only fault is that the studios are poorly-equipped with cooking utensils if you fancy eating in.

Cristoforos Apartments - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

Alison O

Our friend stayed here and he loved it. He stayed in one of the ground floor apartments. Ignore the previous comments about these rooms. They're very spacious, quiet and well-equipped for cooking - the best we've seen in Greece. The views are still superb, the terrace is huge and very private, and the pool is just next door.
The pool's on the small side though.
You do need a car if you're planning on going to the beach though.

Lourdas Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Alison O

Picturesque beach with hills to Mount Ainos towering over it. Mixture of sand/shingle. Water very clear though steeply shelving in places. Very relaxing looking back up the hill as you're swimming.
Good choice of beach-side restaurants.

Have to say that despite staying in Lourdas we only spent one morning here though as we found other, better beaches around the island.

Anti Samos Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Alison O

Anti Samos excellent for snorkelling, but a real pain because it's very stony - the kind of stones where you need to wear shoes in the water, and even then it's difficult to stay on your feet!
The wasps were everywhere - very annoying!

Assos Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Alison O

Two shingle/pebble beaches in Assos - one larger one by the tavernas, and one smaller, more private one near the car park. Both excellent for snorkelling - very calm, clear water and beautiful scenery.

Petani Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Alison O

This was our favourite beach. A bit of a drive, but well worth it. Stunning views down to the beach from the windy road. Hardly anyone on the beach. Mixture of sand and pebbles. Large rocks at one end for privacy. Very clear, calm sea, great for snorkelling.
Only 1 beach taverna open late September, and only serving meals at lunchtime.

Assos - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Alison O

This was our favourite town on the island. So beautiful and peaceful. The walk up to the Venetian fortress may seem like a hard slog but you're rewarded with the most stunning views imaginable.

Fiskardo - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Alison O

Picturesque but slightly overrated in my opinion. Didn't appear to be many Venetian buildings around. Fairly touristy, and food more expensive than elsewhere on the island, but excellent quality.

Try beautiful Foki beach just along the coast for peace and quiet, calm, clear water and excellent snorkelling.

St Georges Castle - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Alison O

Excellent views across to Argostoli and along the coast. Try the cafe next door - perfect setting, lots of fragrant flowers and friendly owners.

Lourdas Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Alison O

Charming, peaceful resort, if a little spread out. Impressive views of Mount Ainos towering above it. Much of the accommodation was a long way from the beach, but the stunning views made up for it.
Good selection of restaurants, both up the hill and on the beach.
Good location for exploring the rest of the island.
Would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful holiday, but you do need a car!
