Vrisida Apartments - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

After reading the other comments i cant believe this is the same place. When we arrived our room was filthy!! the bathroom hadnt been cleaned ( there was still soap skum and shaving stubble welded onto the basin) the toilet was black and there were cob webs hanging from the ceiling! we complained and the owner spent 15 mins cleaning the bathroom (whilst smoking a fag!!) but after he had recleaned it the toilet was still black, someone elses hair was blocking up the plug hole in the shower and you could tell from the welded on scum around the taps that this room had not been thoughrally cleaned for a very very long time. Luckily our manos rep was fantastic and imediatly agreed to move us to other accomodation. we stayed in one of only 2 room at ground level and it smelt of dog, presumably the owners which wanders aound unchecked i dred to think of it on the beds! The only view from the window was of the lara hotel accross the road ( not a pretty sight)and although this accomodation was quite near the beach all the good restarants are a mile hike up the side of the mountain which Lourdas is built on. if you have already booked to go here i hope you have a better stay than us, and take my advise head to the Ionian sun hotel just off the beach, they have a lovely pool bar open to the public, and it was the saving grace of a nighjtmare 2 days in lourdas!

Lourdas Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

I know that everyone has a different opinion of a place so here is mine. Lourdas is a disaster zone. since the village hit the dust afetr the 1957 earthquake little has been rebuilt appart from tourisat accomatation. as such hotles are seperated by piles of rubble and abandoned rubbish. we counted 4 burnt out scrap cars at the side of the road from the top of lourdas down to the beach. rubble and burnt out cars sounds more like Beirot than a holiday resort to me! pretty much all the tavernas are at the top of the hill and all are sperated by lenghthy walks. the beach is at the bottom of the hill, and when i say hill i mean side of a mountain! in the broucher they sate that lourdas is unsuitable for the elderly or infirm due to its hilly location, well im 23 and fit as a fiddle and i couldnt handle the walk from the beach to the tavernas. the beach itself is part sand part shingle part pebble and mostly grubby, it gave me the impression of what builders might leave behind after a days work. i cant understand why anyone would want to go here or find it charming when there is no original greece left, the beach is a mess and its spread out down the side of a mountain??? there are so many much nicer places to be on the island. for example lassie is a large resort offering numerous tavernas and good quality resaurants, beautiful sandy beaches and quality accomodation. people worry that lassie is over touristy and noisy but it isnt at all, it just provides what people want from a holiday. there are no nighclubs so no late night noise of drunken youths to spoil your holiday. for people who like it quiet try Sami or Agia efimia. Both have fab pebbly beaches with clear water to snorkel in. good selection of resaurants and shops and are very popular with the sailing faternity so there is also the snob value of going to either of these places. Just avoid Lourdas at all costs!

Lassi Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

The main strip of shops and restaurants comes alive at night and is a very atmospheric place to be. you can walk to Argostolli in about 15 mins where you will find sheek shops and good restaurants arind a lovely town square (try the captins table) We love lassie its a great base for a holiday as everywere is pretty accesable. plus transport times to the ariport and excursions are shorter from here than anywhere eles on the island. (10 mins to the airport) the close proximity to the airport is not a problem as it is tiny and only a few flights a day come in and out which provide little noise polution, in fact i doubt you will notice the planes at all. plus Kefalonia has no night landing facilities so after dusk the airport is silent.

Lourdas Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

this beach looks like the reminants of a building site! it is discracefully mucky. go to lassie if you want beautiful tropical sandy beaches and to Myrtos of agia efimia if you like paradise pebbly beaches with crystal clear water. i sympathis with any one who has wasted a day on this pathetic excuss for a beach.

Skala Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

we made the effort to dirve from lassie to skala 3 times during our 2 week holiday. the neach is huge (very long, but not wide) the quality of the sand and shingle varies along both its wideth and length so search for a sandy spot. a pare of flip flops are a must as the shingle getting into the sea is very sharp. we went because there is an area past the big rocks on the right which is unoffically designated as nudist. i hadnt done nude sunbathing before but thought i should give it a go, and it was a lot of fun. very liberating and no nasty tan lines. its suprsingly natural and un-p**vy, with people of all ages taking part. snorkeling is fab around the rocks but watch out for trouser snakes lol.

WE really enjoyed our stay in these relatively new appatments. we had a ground floor one right at the front, which ment we had a huge patio (big enough to hold a party for 40 people on) and a view of the sea across to Lixori. the appartment we had was quite spacious with a seperate kitchen and bathroom (with shower cyrain)and came with hair drier, satalite TV and a safe deposit box and air con (for an additional cost) We had one double (very unusual for greece)and one single bed. appartment was cleaned daily with new towles and sheets twice weekly, the maid even did our washing up for us bless her. the outside garden areas could do with landscaping as its just gravel with weeds at the moment. The lassi hotel nx door looks dated to say the least and the pool a little grubby, in fact we took a wide berth around the hotel, however the staff were very friedly and accomodating -nothing was too much trouble. if you stay here i suggest you do the same. go to long and wide beach not the little one sign posted from the appatments. use the pool bar at the preview appatments (100m along the fanari road) its sign posted by the dolphin supermarket.
