Got back yesterday from The Pericles , as hotels go it was a good base for a holiday , a bit like staying with your gran ,  basic food, but good, clean and tidy , and full of nice people with a tale to tell. We didnt take all the advice from the reps , but the trips were good if you wern t able to hire a car . We did hire a car ( not the recommended company ) and saved alot of dosh on ten days hire , same deal to . Star member of staff has to be Alex the Canadian Greek barman , and on wednesdays covered by Gerry also of the same origin , and also a star . We ate breakfast there which is good , and perhaps an evening meal 1 out of 4 nights. ( Mainly because we liked to go out , the food we had in the hotel was good )Best thing about the hotel it attracted some wonderful people who we are still in contact with , I recomend it for a quiet , wholesome , genuine holiday on a fabulous peaceful island with real quiet and genuine people THANKS TO ALL THE STAFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got back last week. Excellent place. Good food and great service from Alex.
Met some really nice people from Liverpool and Northampton.

We went to the  Pericles September 2005 for two week and found the hotel to be satisfactory, it is 15 minute walk into Sami but not much going on very quite. The food in the hotel is excellent and cheaper than eating out in Sami ,there was very little in  the way of entertainment at the hotel Friday night is the big night with tha Karaoke and Wednesday night the quiz. The down side for us was that dead on midnight the bar closes and all is quite we liked to have a drink on the balcony before bed but if you made any noise the guy in the reception would come out and ask you to keep the noise down. You must have a car to get out and about to see th fantastic views on the island or go mad in Sami.

Dawn P

Pericles Hotel was brilliant never been to Kefalonia but i would definetly go back there again.  Alex was the star of the show, he was funny and entertaining.

Sonia S

Donna Alexander,

I really do not know how you can say the Pericles has gone downhill, it is fantastic, perhaps you are doing a bit of marketing for Niko's hence your comment!!

We loved it (even though beds/camp bed uncomfy and food not great - don't go half board!). Location and pool and gardens around hotel fabulous. Would definitely go back again.

Sarah our rep was brill she gave us all special attention. The hotel was very clean  as well as the pool.  We went down to sami and enjoyed meals in different restrants.  Yes the mad woman is still there.
we hired a car and toured the island loved Mertos beach
Thank you Stellios and your Staff for making our holiday the best.

This is a message for Tony Franks. We loved our stay at the Nicos much better than the dreadful Hotel Pericles. We were there for two weeks last summer, and had one of the rooms with the huge sun terrace. It felt very private and like staying in a little villa.

I believe the reason why we cannot locate the apartments on site was that previous guests had been concerned about the well being of the dog chained to its kennel at the entrance to the property, that it was being mistreated. So they reported this to the RSPCA on return to Britain and a ban put on their web site.
Believe me this was not the case , it was well fed and watered and even though guard dog, it was friendly, and did not shy a way from you, which it would have done if it had been mistreated.

This is a real shame as I have explained what a fantastic time we had at the Nicos, to a colleague of mine who wants to go somewhere nice for her Honeymoon next year, and I think this would be ideal for her.

The family who owned the property had great pride in it and were friendly, the rooms were spotless and of and excellent standard, as was the surronding private pool area.

If anyone knows how to get in contact with the Nicos, I am sure Tony and ourselves would appreciate you getting in contact. The Nicos, Sami and Kefalonia, were out of this world.  Its such a shame that some people go the wrong end of the stick.....................WE LOVED IT!

We had a fantastic time during the time between October the tenth to the twenty fourth this year and I must confess that if it was not for Alex the barman keeping every one amused with his stories at the bar every night then the only thing at fault was the lack of entertainment. The restaurant staff were excellent, we wondered how they managed to keep going like they did, they were constantly on the go, the lady at the poolside bar also had energy that we found amazing, In all the staff were some of the most efficient that we have come across on holiday . we are definitely going to go back in the future maybe earlier in the year this time as everything was closing down whilst we were there .We would like to wish every one the best for xmas and hope they have a happy new year To alex if he reads this all the best to the future Viv and phil

Hi everybody!
A lot of you who look at this site either know me or have read my comments previously as this year was my 12th visit to the Hotel Pericles and I hope, I have been one of its biggest supporters when unfair criticism has headed its way.
But, it has changed. Gone are the little personal touches that made it such a welcoming and friendly hotel. They have sold out to the demands of Thomas Cook , who seem to run the hotel rather than the owners and management.
It was always going to be different after the famous Nikos left but, Hey , things change.!! As a lot of you have said ,Alex turned out to be a star. Just as well as he was there holding the fort together!
Personally. I fell foul of the new regime because I made the enormous mistake of talking to fellow holidaymakers about good bars, restaurants, trips such as Sami Star, Car hire half the price of Thomas Cook etc. Isn't that what you do when you are chatting to your mates whilst on holidays?
The hotel accepted my booking in September subject to a gagging order that I didn't speak to anyone.
Obviously, they want their guests to spend money in their hotel and nowhere else.
Was asked to leave after 3 days !!!!!!
Sour grapes don't come into this because I have had too many good holidays at the Pericles to let it be so but........... Anybody out there seen the difference and would you want to stay in somewhere where you have no freedom to spend your time, and money, how and where you choose?

Janet S

My husband and I have just returned from two weeks at the Pericles Hotel in Sami, it was great. Sami and indeed all of Cephalonia is great, really laid back. The Pericles is a good base we went half board and the food was adequate and reasonably priced. The hotel is very clean and the pool is great but very cold. The lounge area seating is not good though as you cannot get out of the soft chairs once you are in them (most uncomfortable). Also the television only seems to show BBC world news. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Sami itself is a lovely place and we aimed each day ti sit in Captain Corelli's for our mornoing coffee and again at lunchtime for his great souvlaki's in pitta a real treat and reasonable too.We hired a car and went all over the isalnd but if you prefer take a taxi they are very cheap and comfortable. We are looking forward to our next visit to Sami and Cephalonia.

Steve H

Alex the bar man was a star, he had worked for 177 days straight and had to work until 31st October.
This guy is well travelled(Canada for 25 years as an airline steward) and friendly, he will make you feel at ease and is like every good bartender a good listener as well as a good talker.
The mother and daughter team were good and friendly(sorry I never got your names)
The weather was excellent for October, week 43, the food at the Pericles was simple, if not canteen like, but at 8 euros for a 3 course house special meal, I'm not complaining.
Corellis was good for snacks, I recommend the Beer appetiser for 2 euros.
The Rivivera was good for Italian food and curried chicken kebab, even though the curry tasted tinned. They also apply a cover charge and charge for bread.
Taka Taka Mam should be called Taki Taki Mam, their veal was vile and their chicken Anorexic.
The Dolphin was OK, try the swordfish.
The cost of a taxi from the hotel to Sami was 3 euros, this is money well spent because the roads are full of pot holes. However they are well light so walking back in the dark is OK.
The rep Ruth got everthing wrong from bus times, trips out and the best place to change money. They do this at the hotel at a better rate than the bank.
I would go again for a chilled out relaxing time by the pool or beach.
The beach at Melissana cafe is made up of shingle, but there are sunbeds, 3 euros per day. Pay in the bar, otherwise Spiros has to stop playing Pool to collect his dues. The food is Good at the Melissana, try the Pizza.

Beverley B

we stayed at the pericles sep 26th to oct 11th our first time anywhere in greece and we absolutely loved it here it was so peaceful just what a holiday should be very laid back at the pericles.stelios and all his excellent staff were friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was wonderful and reasonably priced service second to none. alex the barman was really great and helped make the holiday enjoyable. the hotel was extremely clean and comfortable we shall certainly be returning there. lovely holiday

Chris M

We spent a week at the Pericles on our honeymoon at the beginning of September - will definitely be going again. The hotel was really nice with very friendly staff especially Alex. Hotel was very clean and not at all noisy, restaurant food was great. Can't wait to go again!!

Dee P

We have just returned from our first stay at the pericles. Rooms and public areas were very clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly, especially Aphrodite on reception and Alex behind the bar who made our holiday. It was sometimes noisy but this was due to some inconsiderate guests. The pool was large and very clean with ample sunbeds and shade. Sami centre was a short walk away but no footpath so taxi back is advisable unless you are braver than me. Watch out for the old woman who shouts if you walk on her pavement. A very enjoyable holiday with plenty of good food, drinks, and company. Made some good friends. Thanks to all the staff at the Pericles.

Dee P

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 2 week stay at the Pericles. All the staff were great especially Aphrodite on reception who speaks good english and was very helpful when we needed a dentist and Alex behind the bar[a real star and entertainer]. Those who have met him will know what I mean and for those who hav'nt, you are in for a treat. The rooms are very clean as are the reception areas and pool. Noise can be a problem but this is down to inconsiderate guests. As the floors are marble noise travels especially at quiet times so please try to close doors quietly. Fantastic holiday and made some great friends. Look forward to a return visit.Watch out for Aprodite on Thomas Cook T.V.

Roy M

Back from the Pericles 28th.August another wonderful holiday. Dont know what K M wants for their money the music they complain about is only audible in the bar area, and for the most part is easy listening not crash bang wallop the noisiest thing in the hotel is the Thomas Cook rep who should carry a health warning as she can be heard in Agia Efemia! as for the rooms they have bathrooms beds wardrobes drawers dressing table chairs and balcony and are very clean what more can you ask for, the restaurant we used every night (out of choice)we were not on full board the food is excellent and reasonably priced which cannot always be said of the sea front establishments.thanks again Stellios and all your staff.

Sue G

We arrived back from our second trip to the Pericles last Sunday, and had the most wonderful time again.. My partner even proposed to me in Sami !! what can i say it was perfect..
We hired a car from Avis and did a tour of the Island.. We found a perfect beach just past Skala, called Mounda, which was sandy and very safe for kids as you could walk out to sea for ages, and it was all sand under foot, unlike some of the other beaches which has tiny stones..
We found this year we ate at alot more different restaurants, ie Riviera which had an excellent choice for everyone, food was superb, but if your an eat and run person beware, you can't get the bill for love or money... The waiter George is very entertaining.. and a really nice Greek Guy.. We also tried The Mermaid, Adonis, and Captain Corelli's.. There really is something for everyone.
We wondered what it would be like since Nicos left running the bar.. but to our surprise Alex was a real tonic.. as said before a Greek guy, with a Canadian accent.. he treated all customers with special attention, and we made a real friend in him..
The Rep Linzi was also a great girl, who works very hard to ensure everyone is happy.. she has a wicked sense of humour and an even more wicked laugh..which im certain you will hear for your self ..It's not always easy for her.. so she has our greatest respect ..
All the other staff were also very friendly and extremely helpful too.
This year we had a family room which was excellent, and huge.. it had an ajoining door through to a seperate bedroom for the children.. it was clean and very quiet..
You either love or hate The Pericles.. we love it.. our advise is just go with the flow, yes there are farm animals, and dogs to be heard at night, but as said before this is Greece, and you are surrounded by acres of farmlands.. mountain views, and fantastic scenery.. Can't wait to get back there

David R

We came back from the holiday on the 01/08/04 and we loved it. We took the half board option which we found to be good value but also ate out a few times ,both are recommended. The staff are all very friendly, the rooms very clean and I honestly find it very difficult to find fault. The rep is very good and obviously will push her trips etc. but it may pay you to shop around. Its obviously a beautiful island, this is a great base to explore it( by hire car)and we will be going back. If you are going enjoy.

K M

We have just come back from a week at the Pericles. Kefalonia was wondeful and Sami great but we didn't like the Pericles. The rooms are really basic and there was loud music playing until quite late at night. The restaurant has no atmosphere so you're much better off eating in Sami overlooking the lovely harbour. If you want somewhere really functional then the Pericles is fine and the pool is nice but we definitely wouldn't go there again.

Sue G

Well im all packed and ready for our second trip to the Pericles Hotel !! We are off tomorrow.. can't wait ..
Any others flying out there this weekend ? We are taking our two children this year, hope to see some of you there.
Sue

Lisa P

Hi Suzanne
I'm veggie and stayed at Pericles last year, but only had brekkie there. I am sure that if you tell them they will cater for you ( although it may not be nouvelle cuisine !! ). The hotel is really friendly. If you eat fish you will be OK in the tavernas, if you don't then stick to places that do Pizza as well as meat / fish dishes. Many Greek starters are veggie. And the Dolphin restaurant in the harbour has special 'proper' veggie food !!
Hope you have a fab honeymoon !

Irene W

I booked my holiday at the Pericles before I saw this website (what a brilliant idea, the website, not my booking a holiday)! On average, everyone seems well satisfied with the hotel. However I've booked for the end of October (school holidays) so I really want to know what the weather will be like at this time of year. Has anyone been to Sami around this time? I have a feeling it's the rainy season, but then, that should make me feel at home!

Susanna H

Hello everyone

I am staying at the Pericles from 5th September for two weeks on honeymoon with my gorgeous then husband I cant wait!! Have never flown this far before so very excited. However, couple of questions. Is half board flexible e.g. can you have lunch instead of dinner and do they cater for vegetarians? Also, is there any good vegetarian foods in any restaurants you have been to? But also meat, because my fiance is a meat freak!!

Janet S

Great Stuart it's just what we wanted your report of the hotel was superb. It tells us everything we want to know and we can't wait to get there in October. Its sounds great. Thanks.

Linda M

JUST RETURNED FROM SAMI, PERCICLES HOTEL WAS FANTASTIC.EVERYBODY WAS SO FRIENDLY AND THE HOTEL STAFF COULD NOT DO ENOUGH FOR YOU.THE ONASSIS DREAM CRUISE IS A MUST.LYNDSAY, THE THOMSON REP IS BRILL, COMPLETELY BONKERS WITH A LAUGH LIKE BAZIL BRUSH.CAME HOME WITH A GREAT SUN TAN AND WOUNDERFUL MEMORIES. WILL BE BOOKING TO GO AGAIN.

Stuart A

Hi all,
Just got back from Sami today after a two week stay. Here is my summary! Firstly the hotel is very pleasant and does what it says on the tin eg it's a 3 star hotel, and not a 5 star hotel. No fridges in rooms, but you can store medicenes in hotel fridge. The pool is large and well stocked with sun loungers (3 types in fact ranging from slightly uncomfortable to soft and spongy. The pool bar serves drinks all day from 9am-7pm. A 500ml beer will cost you 2.5 euros. A greek salad 4 euros etc. The views from the hotel are wonderful from all around. Mountains to the south and Sami bay and Ithaca to the north. The food in the hotel is fine. Not as exotic as the Tavernas in Sami, but very resonably priced. Main courses top out at 6 euros! The bar is small and functional, but the barman (Alex) is an absolute star. A consumate (25 years experience across the world)professional. He has a very easy going personality that makes everyone feel like they are a valued customer and that you have known him for years. Do chat to him and give the man respect. He very rarely gets a day off. Car rental starts at 170 euros for (3 days + 1 free inc ACon.) Sami town is not big by UK standards. A 15 minute walk from the hotel to the harbour. 20 mins to Sami's main "West Beach". There is about 10-15 Tavernas all with their own character. I would recommend Faros, The Mermaid, and Pizzera Teresa. Faros was the best for my money. Good meats. Cheap wine. Good service. The Tavernas all look out to sea and you can look out to sea while eating. Sunset is about 9.00 pm at present. AntiSamos beach about 4km from Sami is stunning. Crystal waters surrounded by green hills. Great snorkeling (loadsa fish of all sorts!). I didn't hire a car so taxied to AntiSamos. About 20 euros return journey and 8 euros for 2 sunloungers and umbrella. A bit pricey but the taxi is a Mercedes and I could eaily spend the same money in the UK in a pub and not visit a beautiful beach for my trouble! Not much shopping in Sami. A couple of good clean Supermarkets (small but well stocked). Usual tourist shops with hats and snorkels and tat. you know the kind of thing. Went on two Thomas Cook excursions. Saturday day cruise to Ithaca and East coast of Kef. (got jump off boat into crystal clear waters in two secluded bays, plus a 2 hours stop at Ithaca's Polis beach. The islands were in a middle of heatwave and temps reached 45C!!! on the boat that day so I was in that sea like a shot). Also did the Fiskardo by night tour which also takes you to Assos. All very stunning views, good food. 90 minutes in each location. Just had time to eat in Fiskardo. This is the play ground of the rich and famous. Leonardo Di Caprio, Tom Hanks, Sean Connery, and members of the Onassis dynasty were all sailing in the area and Fiskardo has seen all of them bob in and out as those types do.....Basically my wife and I had a very relaxing time. It is NOT party central. The pace is slow. If you need to unwind then this is gonna be good for you. Near the hotel there is a couple of donkeys and a barking alsation who will wake you up for free, but hey its their village not yours! The crickets are as loud as a hundred hair dryers but you get used to it very quickly. Lyndsey the tour rep is very funny. Laughs like Basil Brush and is a good egg. The staff at the hotel were quiet and helpful. What else can I say? The rooms are simple, but only need be used as a base really. Have a good time. Chill out and it will chill out with you....

Mel S

Hello everyone, many thanks to you all for responding to my question. Hopefully I will find a solution.
We are really looking forward to our visit to Kefalonia, which cant come too soon.

Mel

Suzanne H

Hi Mel,
I also can confrim no fridges in the rooms, but I am sure if you ask at the hotel reception they will be only to pleased to help, we found them to be very helpful and responsive to requests that were made. Lindsey the wonderful Thomas Cook Rep lives at the Hotel so if you have a problem see her she is great.
Have a wonderful time we are looking forward to our third visit. (Wish it was now)

Lisa P

Hello
When I stayed at the Pericles another guest was allowed to store medicines in the hotel fridge with no problem.

Nathan C

Mel,
I've just got back from Sami, at the Pericles and I can tell you that the rooms do not have any kitchen facilities at all.

Mel S

Can anyone help, do the rooms at the pericles have a fridge in them?
We are going on 29th. August

Mel S

We have just completed booking our first trip to the Pericles.
Does anyone know if the rooms have a fridge as I have to take medication that needs to be stored in one?
We are going on the 29th. August.

Many thanks and look forward to our visit.

Mel and Maggie.

Holly S

A fantastic holiday, Hotel was very very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Wish we were going back again.

We went without the children, which was wise as theire was not much for them to do.......very quiet; excellant for a get away form it all break.

Lisa P

Hi Frank
Sami is actually quite a big town ( for Kefalonia !! ) and there are plenty of restaurants and a few bars in the town. Night time action revolves around eating and drinking !!

Lisa P

Hi Jan
Walk into Sami is about 15 mins, it's a flat walk.
I stayed at the Pericles last year and loved every minute of my holiday. Going back this year for 2 weeks but staying at nearby appartments. Noise from nearby farm WAS bad at night ( I thought ) but I took earplugs and drank loads of wine which sorted out the problem ! It didn't seem to bother some guests though, I suppose it depends on how light / heavily you sleep !
If you don't want to hire a car you can get the local bus to Fiskardo / Argostoli / other places although in most cases there is only one per day, so don't miss the return bus !

Frank R

Am staying at the Pericles for a week from 4th July... its my first time in Kefalonia am really looking forward to it from reading this message board.....does anybody have any more comments???.. i.e is the farm really that loud ?? and wot does everybody do at nightime looks like its in the middle of nowhere ??

Sonia S

Hi Suzanne,

Thats great, I do like a happy ending. We will definately being going back just wish I was there now.

Janet S

Its great to get all this info before you visit a place. We are off in October a long time yet I know but we can't wait. It sounds great. Does anyone know if you can still get trips to Italy from Sami harbour. And is the walk into Sami from the hotel a long one as I have arthritis in my knee and if it is we will have to hire a car. I understand the rep has the best deals. We'll keep watching this site and are very interested in all the news and views.
Thanks Jan

Suzanne H

Sonia Smith

Hi Sonia, Yes happy ending passport and everything sorted went home Tuesday 1st June. Baby's name to be Roy both passed fit and well before flying. We waved them off and as they only live 40mins away from us said they would keep in touch but have not seen them yet. We didn't hear Mooing..... either only cockerel from about 2am but it didnt spoil our holiday and are looking forward to going again.

Stuart A

Hi, thanks to all for your inside info :) Still looking forward to going. It's going to be a long week to countdown. Going on 4th July. Now what I need is for Greece to win Euro 2004 so the Greeks are in even higher spirits than usual :)

Emerson B

i'm going on sunday 27th june as half board for 2 weeks. Does anyone know if you can eat a combination of breakfast and lunch or breakfast and dinner as your HB option. Also, what is the best day out (going to the unwater lake??) thanks Emo

Sonia S

There was definately no mooing when we went last month only barking.

I could also recommend the Riveria, fantastic food.

If any one that's due to go could find out from Lindsay the rep what happened to the young girl last month that gave birth and didnt even know she was pregnant, I'm bursting to find out was it a happy ending and did they manage to sort out passport, baby clothes etc....

Lisa P

Stuart . Amy
My top tip for a fab day out is to take the Sami Star boat trip to Ithaca from the harbour. It was 20 euros last year and well woth every euro ! You stop at Vathy and Kioni and if you're lucky you may catch sight of Odesseus !

Lisa P

Hi Amy
Dunno about car hire as I didn't ! But some other guests at the hotel reckoned that the rep offered the best deal. There is a cash machine at the bank in Sami, so you can just withdraw money rather than faff about changing it. There are lots of nice tavernas round the harbour, my fave was the Dolphin, mainly cos it had live music some nights. The 2 things I would recommend you take are earplugs as it can get a bit noisy at night ( there's a farm next to the hotel with lots of mooing and barking ), and a little torch for that walk back to the hotel from the harbour. Enjoy your holiday !

Stuart A

Hi, My wife and I will be visiting The Pericles in Sami in July. This is our first time in Kefalonia (did Crete 2 years ago). Any tips on good restaurants (names?) and Car Hire much appreciated. A friend of mine said most of the cars on the road were hire cars driven by foreigners! Is this true? What are prices for eating out like? 95% of the comments appear positive so I am looking forward to the holiday even more!! :)
Thanks

Delia W

It's been great to find this site !!
We're so excited !!
My husband,Colin & I enjoyed our honeymoon at the Pericles 11 years ago in Aug/Sept 1993.
We also said we'd love to go back & guess what..we booked it on Saturday..we'll be back on Aug 22nd
We now have 3 wonderful children & wonderful Nanny is looking after them for a week while we're away.
We'll even be there for our Anniversary on Sat 28th August !!!
We'd love to hear from anyone who is staying the same week & have lots of trips planned

Suzanne H

Just returned from our second visit to the pericles Hotel. As expected another wonderful time. To people who are unsure about this place try it you will love it, staff are excellent, locals friendly, and guests at the hotel (of which some have returned year after year)find it a very relaxing place to be. The resort of Sami is a very relaxed place to be and you can while away the time at many of the Tavernas on the harbour front and chat to the locals. We hope to return in October but if not will be there next year.

Amy P

Thanks for all the comments, can't wait to go now! If anyone has any other interesting hints or tips, best places to eat, best hire car places and best places to exchange money...?? Any other info would be great!

Sue G

Hi There
We chose the half board option last year, but im afraid we only ate there once..
We found the many restaurants in Sami very reasonable and an excellent quality of food.
This year we have decided to opt for just bed & Breakfast.
We too are also quite sad Nicos has left, we were really looking forward to catching up with him once again

Sonia S

Hi AmyNo charge for the air conditioning. As for Nickos, its all very hush hush as to what happened to him and where he went.

Janet S

My husband and I are visiting the Pericles in October this year. It's our first time on Kefalonia but we have been to Greece many times.
Last year we found the restaurants on Crete had become very expensive so we have opted for half board at the Pericles can anyone tell us about the food there and we love Greek food.

Lisa P

Good days out ??? I recommend the Sami Star boat trip to Ithaca from the harbour, and the Mellisani Caves. If you don't hire a car, you can take the bus to Fiskado or Argostoli - although make sure you know correct departure times as there is only 1 a day either way !! Walking to Anti Samos beach is pretty fab ...
There are lots of tavernas round the harbour, the food is lovely - lots of fresh fish and traditional Greek cuisine. You will find your favourite restaurant. Prices are OK, some tavernas sell local wine by the pint !!

Lisa P

Hi Amy
Breakfast is help yourself buffet style. Coffee, tea, orange juice, bread, butter, jam, ham, cheese, hard boiled eggs, cornflakes.
You can pay extra for cooked foods like bacon and fried eggs.
Some people were moaning about the breakfast which made me laugh, the food was lovely and fresh, you can have as much as you want, and if you take your plates out onto the balcony you can watch the sea whilst you eat ! Fab !!!

Helen H

Being frequent visitors to the Pericles, we were distraught to hear that Nicos has gone. If anyone knows of his whereabouts or what he is doing now, please let us know. Thanks.

Amy P

Thanks for the information. I presume you don't get charged extra for the air conditioning?? Can you let me know what the breakfast are like??

Sonia S

Alex a Canadian guy now runs the bar, really nice guy but cannot make a cocktail which at 4 1/2 euros is a bit of a dissappointment.

Rooms are clean and basic and what we did'nt realise at the time of booking is that you can request a double bed and a room that is quite, as unfortunately the noise from the bar does to tend to carry but hey when you're on holiday who cares. The rooms have an air conditioning unit. They do have a safe deposit box but the charge is 20 something euros.

The meals they do appeal to different tastes I think, we only tried it once and to be honest if I'd have dished it up at home they would have thrown it in the bin, my sister however did try it a few times but to be honest only had one good meal, your best bet is to walk into Sami to one of the lovely Tavernas, meals are excellant and very reasonble.

Sue G

Ohhhh noooooo can't believe Nicos had left..
We were looking forward to meeting him again :(
We are going Aug 1st-15th after loving the place so much last year.
Anyone going the same time ?

Amy P

I am due to stay at the Pericles in June with my partner and I was wondering if anyone could let me know a bit more info about the hotel and what the rooms are like, is there air conditioning? What are the charges to keep your room for those with late flights and charges for a safe? Also anything about the meals they do etc...
Thanks

Rob/jan D

WE ARE RETURNING TO THE PERICLES HOTEL IN AUGUST FOR OUR 8TH TIME,WE ARE SHOCKED TO HEAR THAT NIKOS IS NO LONGER THERE,IF ANYBODY HAS MORE INFORMATION ABOUT WHO NOW RUNS THE BAR/HOTEL,PLEASE LET US KNOW.

IF ANY ONE ELSE IS AT THE PERICLES BETWEEN THE 15TH &29TH AUGUST 2004,PLEASE REPLY AND LET US KNOW

Hi Pam
Nearest beach is Sami, actually there are 2 beaches, East and West of the harbour. It's about a 15 min walk from Pericles. Beaches are mainly shingle with some sand, so you need beach shoes !
Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Lisa P

The nearest beaches are in Sami itself which is about a 15 min walk from the hotel, there are 2 beaches in Sami, to the east and west of the harbour. Or you can walk to Anti-Samos beach which is about an hours walk. If you hire a car you have no problem.
The Sami beaches are mainly shingle with patches of sand so you need footwear on the beach.
Anti Samos beach has no sand. But you can hire loungers.

Just returned on Sunday from the Pericles, was really looking forward to meeting Nicos, but he has now left.

Great location, extremely friendly people, cannot say the same for the guy that owns the place, a very miserable chap. Everyone else in the hotel was great and I would like to add that the Thomas Cook reps, Ruth (who has now left and gone to Skala) and Lindsay were great, best reps that I have ever met. Hired a car for the first week and chilled out the second week. The tavernas down the road were good and very reasonable, the best one is the Riveria. If you get the chance Assos is a must to visit and Fiskardo. We also went on two excusions, the Onassis cruise and the Ithica one, both good but if you only want to do one go for the Onassis cruise. We will definately be going back there.

We are due to stay at the Pericles for 2 weeks from 30/5/04 but I can't find anywhere that says how far away the nearest beach is?

Hi Shaun
I went to Sami / Pericles last year and it was fab ! Most people hired a car to see the whole of the island but there are plenty of things you can do on foot / by bus. The Mellisani lake is a 30 min walk, as are the Caves. Anti Samos beach is about an hour walk. Although if your kids are very young this won't be an option as it's tough going. The hotel itself has a kids pool and small play area, and the beach in Sami although mainly shingle has some sandy bits that will suit the kids.
Don't be put off by some of the dross written on this site, the hotel is ace, really clean and the staff are lovely.
The only thing I would say is that it is very noisy at night, not from nightclubs etc but from the farm next door !! I took earplugs from Boots and they stopped the noise. As did a couple of bottles of local wine !
Hope you enjoy your holiday, leave a message if you want any more info.

Dear Everybodies,
Yes it was me who's chair collapsed on the balcony and was knocked out!!!!
The leisure furniture is an on going problem and I was not the only one who had problems but mine was the most spectaculare I believe!

Well apart for that It was a good holiday. The hotel while ghaving friendly staff was nothing special. The laounge furniture was dirty and needed recovering to say the very least.

As for the Dining Room, it was not large enough and there was always overspill, a mute point but endemic of the palce. Nikos was a professional in all aspects of Hotel management and as I said before the staff were great in thir attitude and friendliness.

Did not use the pool as after my accident I could not swim so had to sit in the sun all day and drink fluids - SHAME

To sumarrise nothing special, would not go again and found the Dolphin Taverna below par. - preferred Faros the Greek beabs were excellent.

cheers and happy holiday and enjoy the Pericles experience but watch out for those plastic chairs!!!!

Come on, it,s a crummy joint! You lot must have low expectations of what to expect for your hard earned .If you enjoy a youth hostel more we,ll i suppose that is what it is realy but for older mugs.Come on the Pericles, INVEST some of your punters money in the hotel I,ll give you some examples.A few picture,s in the rooms WoW.Filters on the air con outlets. So we don't have to breath other peoples shed skin cell's(dust). More comfortable mattress. One side of my body would be numb in the morning's.I would panic upon waking thinking i'd lost a limb the previous night. (but if you go to bed pis*** that realy don,t matter:)Re-surface the ground around the pool area. So its ok to walk on.For us older folk its realy painfull to walk on.And when you take a fall the pea like shingle finish realy diggs in your knee,s.A sunshade over the childrens swings and slide.and so on.There you go.That should keep you going for a few years. Many thanks
