Mareblue Apostolata Resort
(Hotels in Skala)

8/10 Graham Warmington (June 09, 2007)

I am afraid that I read the previous review only a couple of days before leaving for Kefalonia, and wondered what sort of hotel we were going to stay at. Our fears increased as we saw something of some of the other hotels the folks on our bus from the Airport were being dropped off at; but when we reached Louis Apostolata we were surprised at how good it looked, and within a matter of minutes felt that we had made the right choice. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous; the rooms and grounds were clean; the views from our balcony were magnificent; etc, etc, etc. It was our wedding anniversary during our stay, and when we reached our room the hotel had provided a bunch of flowers, a bowl of fruit; two half-bottles of white wine and two bottles of water. We had booked in at half board, and therefore did not have the "Inclusive facility". However, it was definitely working. Folks were helping themselves to glasses of wine throughout the evening and we overheard folk positively commenting on the lunch-time provided food; and on our leaving day we went to the Dining Room at mid-day and "inclusive guests" were certainly tucking into some good food. Being a little way out of Skala it is advisable to have your own hire-car; although with organised trips and the hotel bus running hourly into Skala from 11am onward we managed a visit away from the hotel virtually every day during our week on the Island. One final good point from our perspective: that although we visited Kefalonia during the May half-term holiday for most British schools, the hotel had very few children staying at it.

I paid Olympic Holidays loads of money for a weeks holiday at what was supposed to be a hotel for the discerning traveller.  What a joke!! beware the hotel does not "slope gently to the sea" it slopes to the edge of a high cliffe which is reached by very steep steps. The food is poor, the pool is tatty and there are not enough sun beds for the number of guests using it.

The all inclusive arrangement did not exist and no food other than stale sandwiches served in the pool bar area.

We were so disappointed at this rip off.  Its back to Rhodes for us this year and to the wonderful Lindos Mare Hotel, Lindos, which really is a hotel for the discerning traveller.

We have just returned from a week at the Apostolata and how disappointed we were. The whole place needed some TLC. The pool bar area was filthy, I wouldn't have eaten anything from there! There were mouse or rat droppings in the pool area toilets.
The hot food in the restaurant was very disappointing (always cold), we paid for a taxi into Scala for 4 evenings out of 7 to get a decent meal. (Supposed to be All Inclusive).
The hotel bar was definitly lacking in atmosphere, as was the choice of drinks. Should have gone to the NINE MUSES again, a far superior hotel!

We stayed at the Apostolata in June 2002 - we had an excellent holiday. The hotel was very clean and the hotel staff extremely helpful. The pools were amazing especially the spa! The favourite bit for me was watching the wild pigs and goats walking across the mountains in the morning with the shepherd. Wouldn't hesitate to book again. There was only one fault - if you are not energetic or suffer with mobility the walk up and down to the pool is quite demanding. Honestly, though we had a great holiday and use this hotel as our benchmark.

The resort itself, just outside Skala, was brand new in 2001, and very clean, although we thought it is nearer to a 3-star than the 4-star it claims to be. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed our stay here.
