Asteris Hotel - (Accommodation in Skala)

Neil S

I would strongly recommend this hotel to anybody going to Kefalonia.  We have returned this week after a week away (with FirstChoice) and were very impressed with everything at the Asteris.  Ideal situation (Skala about 2 minute drive away - being out of the way was quite nice and being slightly away from the resort and up a hill provided a noticable temperature difference after the sun had gone down with Skala being almost too warm in the evenings), excellent room (we had Studio Flat - very spacious) and even though I nearly chose somewhere with a shorter transfer time, I'm glad I didn't as it didn't take as long as I thought it would - with the air-conditioned buses from the airport taking you along a nice route, it really felt no hassle.

Our room was cleaned daily to a high standard, all of the staff there were very friendly and helpful.  Clean and tidy environment, excellent pool and great bar (and staff!).  Gutted we didn't make the effort to go to the BBQ on Monday - maybe next year!

I really struggled on deciding where to stay in Kefalonia and remember looking at this website for hours and hours at the different resorts and accomodations, but know by far we made the best choice.

If you are looking for a quiet week away with the possibility of hiring a car, even for a few days, then I would strongly recommend this hotel.

The hotels dog is great too!

[May as well put a few other things on this bit as I know I looked predominantley at the hotel/apartment guides - but the Glass Bottom Boat done through our rep (not the one in Skala) was fantastic!  The underground lake at Messiani/Melissiani (?!) is worth a look and the beach near Sami, although has big pebbles, is rather nice too!  Best sand beach was the one we were took to on the glass bottom boat trip, right next to the airport which was no bother as you just watched the 2 or 3 planes that land in the afternoons coming right in whilst relaxing on a beautiful beach and waving at the passengers!]

Roll on next year!
Enjoy!
