Stayed at Tara Beach August 2008. We hadn't stayed in Skala before and ended up there on a last minute booking. Arrived late in the evening after delayed flight, made our own way from the airport. Warm welcome and full assistance with our bags from the manager, plus complimentary cold drink....a nice touch. Room smallish but very pleasant and quite cool - though air-con needed later in the week as it got v.v.hot. Fridge, bathroom fittings etc. all working fine.
The pool bar was quite expensive but that's how hotels keep margins up in these hard times, I suppose. The pool got quite busy - mainly Brits - but was well maintained and had a nice wave machine/jacuzzi type feature every so often. The staff were friendly and efficient and took pride in keeping the place clean and tidy. The hotel gardens are really lovely - full of greenery, fruit and flowers.
Breakfast was simple but plentiful, with the option of a cooked meal at a reasonable price.
Overall, I'd rate the Tara among the better budget hotels I've stayed at. Its location is superb - right on the beach - and it has everything one could want for a cheap n' cheerful holiday. Skala too made a nice change, though we prefer Lassi.
