Andreas Apartments - (Accommodation in Skala)

click to enlargeKefalonia is a stunning place marred only by the majority of the islanders attitudes towards animal welfare. Imagine Cruella D'Ville of the kitten world and you have our 'hostess with the leastess' Elisabeth. In Kefalonia it is now totally normal for holiday makers to feed cats and dogs due to the increasing numbers of them - islanders largely disagree with neutering, despite the valiant efforts of Kefalonia Animals Trust to re-educate. We fed a cat living in a drain below our apartment because she was emaciated and had 3 tiny beautiful kittens. I'm not unrealistic - I know not everyone like cats, but you'd have to be a hardhearted battleaxe not to let this little family tug at your heartstrings. Which is exactly how I would describe Elisabeth the manager. With no prior request for me to stop feeding the cats, last Friday I faced a tirade of aggression from this poisonous witch, the like of which I have never experienced, especially from someone I was actually paying as a guest! What a joke. This woman will ingratiate herself when you're handing over your Euros, but God help you if you upset her! We actually saw her watching our apartment every morning after this! With help from the above mentioned KAT charity, we took the mother to the islands only vet and had her neutered, however I have returned home very upset and concerned about the future welfare of our little friends because of Elisabeth's nasty attitude.

Marabou - (Bars in Skala)

Vikki W

Lovely place run by lovely people - some of the few animal loveing people we met.

September - (Best Time to Visit Kefalonia)

Vikki W

Beware the wasps of Septmeber - they were a real pain.

Greekstones - (Car Rental on Kefalonia)

Vikki W

Excellent service - tiny bit more expensive perhaps, but worth it even if they were because the car was great as were the people.

Eleana Apartments - (Accommodation in Skala)

Vikki W

Didn't stay here, but had cause to visit the bar - Sharon was lovely as was the cider  Wish we'd stayed here instead of the Andreas!!!

Drogarati Cave - (Places to Visit on Kefalonia)

Vikki W

This was ok for something to do and they didn't stop us taking a few pics, but the caves at Wookey Hole are better!

Melissani Lake - (Places to Visit on Kefalonia)

Vikki W

Stunning - make sure you go on a sunny day and this is entirely worth the money!

Flamingo - (Restaurants in Skala)

Vikki W

Very nice food and varied menu, however we did find at the end of the holiday that Bar Scandiavia does the same variety, includes your starchy staples like potatoes, rice etc and is slightly cheaper.

Kosmar - (Tour Operators on Kefalonia)

Vikki W

I found this holiday well organised. BMI is probably the best short haul airline I have ever flown with and I even ate the food - unheard of previously!! Was a little annoyed that the flight both ways was delayed and Kefalonia's airport is hopelessly under equiped for the level of tourism - not Kosmar's fault though.

My only real complaint is that despite apparently numberous complaints about Elisabeth, they are still offering the Andreas II apratments. Kosmar - Expect a letter from me regarding this woman soon.

Veto Bar - (Bars in Skala)

Vikki W

Sorry for taring the Veto bar with this brush but no other oiption for the 'deli'. The bar was great and I was very pleased they offered cider. On the other hand, the man running the deli at night was rude and entirely unhelpful. Food was rubbish as well.

Skala Resort - (Resorts on Kefalonia)

Vikki W

Kefalonia is a stunning place marred only by the majority of the islanders attitudes towards animal welfare. Skala was a lovely place but like everywhere else on the island, if you like animals pack your heart in a box and leave it at home. The beach was lovely, and most of the resataurants clean and welcoming.

Avoid the Andreas I & IIapartments like your life depends on it - the owner is a malicious battleaxe who will make you feel welcome only if you're over 60 and pouring Euros into her pool bar. Anyone under this age, especially if you have kids or like animals, avoid like the plague.
