We stayed at Tara Beach the very end of October 2004. It was the last week of the season and Skala was closing down, however there were plenty of choices of tavernas right up until the last day, with many offering free wine to entice the last visitors of the season. The hotel is in the best location ever, it is so well kept and even though it is furnished in quite basic Greek style it is clean. The gardens were beautiful, the pool really clean and the food excellent. I've been to Greece many times, but this was the first place I have ever seen so much fruit growing, pomegranates, lemons, limes, oranges, all in one garden.
Breakfast is basic, but it's cheap enough to go for the full English and they really do fill up the plates. The staff, and owners, are lovely people. I would go back there anytime - Skala is a fabulous place - and the island felt like we owned it as the beaches and roads were almost empty.
