Panorama Village - (Accommodation in Lassi)

As lovers of Greece we have travelled extensively throughout the Greek Islands & Mainland so I will try to be as objective as possible. We stayed at The Panorama Studios Lassi (The one with the pool)the first 2 weeks of Sept 2004. Welcome to Cat City. If you have a downstairs apartment & don't like cats don't try to eat outside or leave the door open. We had one try to bring a dead rat in. The apartments are modern ,spacious & clean, Maid service 6 days a week. The views from the site are good in places, the grounds & parking are very good (except for the keep off the grass signs). There is no Reception, Safety Deposit Boxes or Supermarket on site (nearest is in Lassi). There is a Pool Bar manned by two Greek girls each doing a morning or evening shift.(They don't speak to each other.) The Rep was about as much use as a chocolate teacup! Drinks 4.50 Euros for a shot of spirits 2 Euros for the mixer. The bar is deserted at night except for the greeks watching the tele & not paying a lot or having a free lunch on the weekly Bar-b-Que that you pay for.(Suddenly they all appear from nowhere!)
It took 9 days to get a broken toilet seat changed. Lots of kids there the first week, quieter when they returned for the school term. Then there is the HILL OF DEATH to the apartments. Take your life in your own hands if you want to walk it. Mind you ther is a church half way up, probably to bury you if you don't make it! If you have any physical problems at all forget it! If this is 920 Mtrs then they need a new tape measure.
We had to hire a car for 2 weeks just to get up the hill. You can hire a taxi from the queue at the bottom (1.50 Euros for the locals, up to 5 Euros if you're a tourist). The two beaches in Lassi are crowded, but if you're prepared to travel a bit you can find some really nice places. The main strip in Lassi is dire, a busy straight road with a lot of resturants & a few supermarkets, hardly any shops & nothing for kids. At one restaurant my wife asked for a mixed grill & it arrived on a stick like a kebab! Agosotli the main town is just up the road & we found ourselves going there most nights. Everything is centered around the Main Square & not on the sea front as in a lot of Greek Islands. A Warning when travelling home if your suitcases are even slightly overweight, they will add yor hand luggage to the scales & charge you 6 Euros for every Kilo you are over! Funny we never seem to get charged at Gatwick.(Again Rep Useless!} The Euro & the Greeks unfortunately seem to be trying their best to overpice everything. All in all Kefalonia is a beautiful place in parts (Sami is beautiful), but you just have to travel so far on the island to get anywhere. For us Lassi was a big No No! So alas we won't be returning.

As a lover & frequent visitor to the Greek islands & Mainland I shall try to be as objective as possible about the Panorama Apartments (the one with the pool). We travelled the 1st two weeks of Sept 2004.
The apartments are Clean, Spacious & Modern. Excellent parking & views in parts. There is maid service 6 days a week. There is no Reception, Supermarket or Safety Deposit on site. There is a Pool Bar serving some food. The prices at the bar are 4.50 euros for a shot of spirit, plus 2 Euros for the mixer. The bar is run by two Greek girls doing 8 Hour shifts each. They do not speak to each other, hence it took 9 Days to get a broken toilet seat in the apartment repaired. The bar was mainly deserted at night except for Greeks watching the Tele. The Weekly Bar-B-Que was Stone Cold & the locals ate most of it, which we paid for.(They seemed to come out of the woodwork on these nights! The Hill to the Panorama is horrendous! If you have any breathing or physical disabilities forget it! We had to hire a car for two weeks to get up it! The other option is to take your life in your hands & walk it, or get a Taxi at the bottom from the queue (1.50 for locals up to 5.00 for tourists). There is a church half way up, presumably for those who don't make it! Lassi main street itself is a busy straight road with loads of restaurants a couple of shops & supermarkets & nothing else. Frankly it could be anywhere in europe. Very dire! Agostoli the main town is quite close & much better & we found ourselves going there most nights. Don't expect to sit on the front by the port as in a lot of the islands as all the activity is centered around the main square. Go to Sami for this. The beaches in Lassi are very crowded, but you can find quiter spots if you're willing to travel. Beware being overweight at the airport! If your suitcases are slightly over they will put your hand luggage on the scales & charge you 6 Euros per Kilo Over! ( Funny we've never been charged at Gatwick). All in all the apartments were nice & Kefalonia is a beautiful place, but you have to travel so far from Lassi to find the spots. Alas The Euro & the Greeks seem to be making a fine job of overcharging since the move from the Drachma! There are so many better places than Lassi in Greece to go, so unfortunately we won't be returning.
