In reply to the last post:  we did ask Naploeon whether he can accept direct bookings and unfortunately he had a contract with the tour operator which doesn't enable him to offer rooms to customers direct.

Thoroughly enjoyed my two weeks here.  Great place and company to match too.

Is this hotel situated as follows, the last hotel on the left hand side of the road (set back from the road) just before walking further up the road / track to the old village in the hills? If so, does anybody know if the appartments have a web-site to enable direct bookings? Thanks

Kerrina N

Can anyone tell me if you can book direct to Napoleons Aparthotel, or do you have to book through a brochure? Has anyone got Napoleons tel.no. and the address of Nirithes Aparthotel please? I went to see Nirithes Aparthotel last year and looks very nice. I would love to go back again and stay at the Nirithes Aparthotel. If someone can let me know please. Thank you. Regards Kerrina and Tony

The apartments were very clean and quite well equiped.  The pool was also very clean and a "pool boy" attended daily to keep it that way.  However Napoleon seemed to be experiencing staff shortages and was trying to run the bar and reception single handly at the same time.  During our second week the bar would be closed for an hour or more during the day without any notice because Napoleon had to go somewhere and there was nobody else to look after the place.  Also he opened up the bar later and later during our second week there.  Sometimes not opening until gone noon. Napoleon does not live on the premises and there is no one there after he closes the bar at night.  This could be a problem if you experienced an emergency. The apartments are great if you are in good health, it is a steep climb up the hill from the town, but a taxi from the rank only costs four Euros.  Napoleon you have a great place but you cannot do it all, you need to employ some extra staff.

Hi
going to Skala in Kefalonia next June, could anyone tell me if the restaurants and bars are expensive for meals and drinks. Been to Kos this year and found it to be quite reaonably priced.

Thanks

This family run 'aparthotel', now in its 4th year of operation, is by far the best we have ever stayed in, and some have said that it equals some 4*/5* hotels! (We can't comment as we have never had that much money to burn!)

We stayed in a 1st floor 'studio' which consists of one large room with a shower/wc room off, the room had 3+1 beds (2 placed together -no roll together!) with another bed which pulled out from under the convertible bed/sofa, a private balcony off with table and chairs and clothes airer.

Very high quality fixtures and fittings, loads of power sockets, UPVC double gazing and steel security roll shutters, plenty of cupboard/drawer/wardrobe space.

Kitchen equipped with toaster/kettle/ 2 ring electric hob, sink/drainer and 4 of everything cutlery/crockery wise.

Table and 4 chairs, bedside tables, coffee table and dresser/mirror, Tiled throughout, hairdryer built into the wall!

Colour TV with 3 Greek and 3 English channels (Cnn/BBC world/BBc prime) plenty of old sitcoms and kids TV as well as 24 hour news -saves you a fortune in UK newspapers!

Efficient maid service daily! (Change of sheets/towels etc.)

L shaped pool with Jacuzzi, 1.9m deepest 1m shallowest, plenty of sunbeds/brollys, bar (with big screen TV etc)and bbq area, snacks available all day, foyer has holiday book club -look on the reception bar -they'll have to get a  bookshelf soon!

It is the staff that makes these facilities exceptional, Napoleon and Dina with their families run a well ordered and efficient business here, one that it is obvious they are justifiably proud of and care very much for!

Friendly, welcoming and funny -they are the perfect hosts!

Air conditioning is built in, optional at 8 Euro per day, a safe is also built in at 15 Euro per week.

The location is at the end of Skala (new village) and at the end of the fairly steep main road, this however gives some advantages:

Hardly any traffic on the road outside.

We have had the best sleep we had in years here (and not just thanks to the excellent Skala Taverna food or Napoleons Cocktails!) -woken only by our own body clocks or the cockerel down the road waking up everything else!

The pool stays quiet for most of the day as only residents use it!

The location is ideal for a walk up to old Skala village (destroyed utterly in the Earthquake of 1953) a very moving and FREE excursion for you to do! If you do go -take plenty of water/sunblock/hats, get the map from the 'periptero' (news kiosk) and leave by 7am latest as it gets very hot and the hill is loose scree for a large part and steep -very good exercise!

Say hello to the goat(s)!

p.s. if anyone reading wants pictures of 'Sami' the cat and her kittens email me direct:

TimhATchippenham58DOTfreeserveDOTcoDOTuk.

Thanks again to Napoleon/Dina and families for making us so welcome, we will see you again next year!

Like most comments these are good apartements for this price range, but some of the gushing remarks make it sound like the Ritz by the sea. Let's get real the apartments are clean tidy but basic as are most for this type of holiday. We stayed in 298 which is basement so the patio has no real view but was nice enough. Only 2 patio chairs though so that was a problem for the 3 of us.

The wardrobes smelt damp and musky, so the clothes were kept on a coat hook behind bedroom door (not good start). Beds as usual mean you can't sleep together as they are twin (why do most holiday apartments do this?) and the aircon broke on day 2! These are only niggles though. On the plus side Napoleon runs it well and his girlfriend Dina (quite hmmm!) is excellent too. Pool is good, drinks are good didn't eat anything so can't comment on that. Location is good nice quiet spot but a hell of a hile up the hill at 2am after a nite in Skala!

Recommended though and good value

Four of us, Woody, Pat, Carole & myself have just returned from 2 fantastic weeks at the Nirithes Aparthotel.
The rooms were excellent
The pool was superb
The location was at the top of the hill & a difficult walk especially after a good meal & drink, but the taxis were only 4 euros & well worth it.
Napolean was an excellent host & always had a smile, well maybe not on Tuesday when he was rather busy.
He also believed he could play pool on his brand new table until he meet us hustlers.
Napolean was well supported by his lovely girl friend Dina, who always served you a good cold beer with a smile.
Mum Vicky (or blondie as Woody named her) was also there to help when it was busy & again always friendly what evertime of the day.
We are already looking forward to returning to this wonderful location sometime in the forseeable future.

Thanks all at the Nirithis

In reply to Stephen Hunt's request for a phone no for Nirenthes/Scala.I think I have it. Was prob ages ago that it was asked for so may no longer be needed! I stayed at Nirenthes for 2 weeks in June 2002 with my daughters. I think we were among the first guests to stay.Had a fabulous time. Cheap car hire from Napolean etc. etc. Lovely meals out in the village each evening/ really friendly people too. Tel no I have is 06710 83060

We have just returned from a two week stay in these apartments. We had a thoroughly relaxing time and would recommend these apartments if, like us, you want a quiet base, a bar, a pool and easy access to the town.

Napoloen and his family are very helpful and friendly. Elias, the bar man was a star - great BLTs and omlettes - and good company too!

The apartments are at the top of the high street (and a bit beyond) in a very quiet and picturesque location. The hill wasn't too bad depending on the time of day (a bit more of a struggle between 1 and 4 pm), though agree that the holiday brouchure should warn you of it. The pool was fantastic and because the apartments were on the hillside there was a pleasant breeze by the pool. We had the aircon for the second week @ 7 euros a night which was great!

The town is very near and there is plenty of choice for food and was never too busy.

Forgot to mention the room, lovely and spacious and clean. Very basic in supplies in the kitchen but we ate out all the time so no bother

We loved it here. You get used to the hill after a couple of days. I woulnt rec to anyone with mobility problems as the hill is very steep, also people with children in buggys, would and did find it a very tough trek. People very friendly, nothing too much trouble. Napoleon was a real nice guy and his car hire was so much cheaper than others.(125euros for a punto for 7 days). Plenty of places to sit about, always had a lounger by the pool. Other guests very friendly.
Stephen..... if you just write to Napoleon at Nirithes, Skala, Kef...i am sure it will get there as everyone seems to know each other there. We asked about booking direct but he is tied to First Choice for another 2 years.
The only drawback to Skala in general is the amount of time from the airport, but if staying at Nirithes you can write to Napoleon and he will collect you, that way it is only about 40 minutes. Will deffinately do this next time.

Just returned from a great holiday at Nirithes. The staff were helpful and friendly (especially Elias, who made lovely cheeseburger and chips!)and the apartments were well equipped and spacious. Would recommend Nirithes to couples or families with older children. Walking up the hill, carrying a sleepy 4yr old after a few cocktails at Sally's Bar was a bit of an effort!!

Does anyone have a contact phone number for the 'Nirithes' apartments please.

Stephen H

If anyone would like to see my digital photo's of the 'Nirithes' complex and Kefalonia, just copy and paste the web address below into your normal address bar.

http://mysite.freeserve.com/digitalgallery2

There are also 'Links' to more holiday destinations we have visited and photographed on the same web site I built.
It's a basic site, but gives you a brief look at a few holiday destinations before you travel.

Enjoy!

Stephen H

Tour operator is 'First Choice'.

These apartments are newly built and set in a tranquil setting within a mountain backdrop and pine trees. If it is a quiet relaxing holiday you want, then look no further than these apartments. Although not fully completed when we visited in June 2002 they were still very comfortable with all amenities working. No expense has been spared on the construction of these apartments or the grounds. When we were there last June a small fortune was being spent on plants around the perimeter of the pool and buildings, which must look fantastic by now. The apartments are set just on the outskirts of Skala’s small town at the top of a steep incline, possibly making these apartments unsuitable for anyone with walking difficulties. Having said that, local car hire would overcome this. More about that further on.

The rooms are all a very good size and tastefully decorated with ample storage space. We had a 'One Room', which is another word they use for an 'Apartment'. The benefit of these rooms are that they are bigger and have the addition of a table and four chairs and an extra sofa bed. There are twin beds, fridge, two cooking rings, toaster and kettle along with all the basic cooking utensils you will need. All rooms have air conditioning, controlled via your room remote and payable locally. There is also a telephone and a TV in all rooms (limited channels). Most rooms have a good sized balcony overlooking either the pool or surronding countryside. There are also terrace rooms available should you prefer. Saftey deposit boxes are available at reception for a small charge.
The bathroom is a decent size comprising of WC, bath with overhead shower attachment.
There is a pool bar and large patio area with plenty of tables, chairs and parasols. A large satalite screen is set to one side of the patio area for all you sport and film enthusiasts. At the time we were there bar meals were unavailable, but was assured this would be rectified for next season (2003). On the level below. There is a large attractive fresh water pool with a round Jacuzzi pool attached at one end for relaxing those muscles. There are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas to go round. Although all of the clients staying at the ‘Nirithes apartments were British when we were there, we still all tended to act like the Germans, and mark our spot for the day - if you know what I mean……!!
The staff, who are also the owners, are very pleasant and helpful. The owners son 'Napoleon' has his own car rental business called V.L.M a little way down the road on the left. He offers very good rates for clients staying at the 'Nirithes', much cheaper than the holiday company prices. Funnily enough they don't mention this in the brochure!!...
A short strole of 5-10 minutes will take you into Skala’s main street where you will find a good variety of bars restaurants and one night club. A further five minutes will take you to the end of the street and the beach. Not the best beach in the world, very fine shingle. But there are sandy beaches nearby, reached within 10-15 minutes by car.
Overall, we liked Skala and the island of Kefalonia with its beautiful scenery and beaches and especially the ‘Nirithes’ apartments where you could enjoy a relaxing peaceful holiday but also with a little bit of night life not too far away. If you’re looking for frantic night life, then this resort is probably not for you.
I would say my only gripe is, since Greece has gone over from the Drachma to the Euro we did notice a significant rise in prices.
We will be back again one day, but will probably try and arrange it ourselves and book direct through Napoleon if possible and then get a cheap flight. We have done this before on a holiday to Zante, saved almost half brochure price. All it takes is a bit of searching on the web. It’s not rocket science.

Have a great holiday.

Sue&bob B

Just returned after 2wks at nirithes, our 2nd visit everywhere very clean & tidy, lovelly pool c/w brollys & loungers.Good pool bar with lunch time snacks if needed. An allround very good apparthotel which is only approx 2-3 yrs old.and a family run business who are very 'hands on'.Use VLM Rentacar in Skala, run by Napoleon the owners son, excellent deals on all vehicles, all very new.

Sharon G

We stayed at the Nirithes apartments in July 03. We found them to be very clean, we had a studio which was very spacious for three. We had a fridge, toaster, kettle etc. Air conditioning was expensive but well worth it! You will have to pay about 10 euros a day, in cash! The pool was lovely, never very busy, plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. The walk down the hill is fine in the evening but a bit hot during the day from the beach, stop in bar on the way back! A good business opportunity for someone to put a bar just at the brow of the hill!!! All in all we had a great time at these apartments, the family who run it are friendly and welcoming, not too expensive at the poolside bar, watch out for the lights that go out at 12 midnight around the bar! (I think they may extend their timer soon!).
We would go back again. Skala is a great place to visit and would recommend getting a car (VLM was a very good price) The son of the apartments owns this company!, He will do a good deal.

Rebecca N

Stayed at Nirithes apartments in June 2003. Apartments are very clean and spacious with a lovely pool. Was a fair walk from the shops and a trek to the beach but as we had hired a car this wasn't too much of a problem. Check Air con prices as they charged us 12 Euros per night which is very expensive over 2 weeks. Despite that I would recommend these apartments.

Claire S

Although not for people with walking difficulties due to the large hill, there are beautiful views, a great pool and bar, clean and spacious rooms.

Sue&bob B

We stayed at nirithes aparthotel last sept02 very pleased with rooms & cleanliness of entire complex.Use the car hire business of Napoleon the owners son at v&m car & bike hire. He'll do you an excellent package.Agood man to deal with.

Phillip S

If Stephen Hunt would care to e-mail me at cpsphotographic'hotmail.com I can supply photos

Phillip S

WE STAYED THERE THE SECOND WEEK IT WAS OPEN AND AS TO BE EXPECTED THE PLACE WAS NOT RUNNING AT 100% BUT THE APARTMENTS WERE BEAUTIFUL THE PLACE IS CLEANNNN THE LOCATION IS FANTASTIC BEAUTIFUL VIEWS, ONE SLIGHT DISADVANTAGE IT'S AT THE TOP OF THE TOWN AND WHEN WE STAYED THERE IT WAS THE HOTTEST JUNE FOR YEARS, WHEN YOU HAVE HAD AN EXCELLENT MEAL AND A FEW DRINKS IT IS A BIT OF A SCRAMBLE UP THE HILL. AH! BUT TO SIT AT THE POOL IN THE SHADE OF A POOLSIDE UMBERALLA AND SIP A COOL FRESH ORANGE JUICE AND LOOK AT THE FANTASTIC VIEW.. WE BOOKED TO RETURN A WEEK AFTER WE CAME HOME... PHIL SMITH

Recently constructed. I am trying to find some images on the above complex that has recently been constructed in Scala, Kefalonia. All I could find were two artists impressions in a holiday brochure. Can you help? Regards Stephen Hunt
