We stayed at the panorama studios for 1 week from 09/6/2007

If you want peacefull in a beautifull setting then this is the place for you.We walked to Lassi several times, the taxi back was 5 euros. We walked to Agostolli and back. Phew were we tired !
All in all a lovely peacefull week with perfect weather

We stayed at the Platon appartments near the Panoramic Hotel. The up side is the quiet location with easy access to Argostoli 20 minute walk / £3 taxi ride. Lassi is further away than you expect 35-40 mins (which is no bad thing if you don't like the typical brits-abroad holiday resort experience). Gerry who runs the place is a great source of information about the island, its history, what to do etc, and is fanatical about keeping his pool clean.
The down side was the lack of a sea & sunset view (only some appartments have this, though there is a comunal terrace at the front of the appartment block). The dogs next door barking through the night and in the early morning. The self catering arrangements were pretty poor; I mean you expect basic, but that shouldn't mean filthy cutlery and crockery... And the cleaning arrangements were not perfect.
Your own transport is an absolute MUST! as is a good guide book or you might miss out on some of the sights of the island. Don't go to Kefalonia if you are expecting wild nightlife, the 'top' nightclub being the Cinema club which would be funny if the drinks weren't £5 each... But for great food, history, and BEAUTIFUL scenery it is perfect!

We stayed at the Fanari Hotel found it to be clean and the staff very friendly if you made the effort to speak to them, even got a hug when we left. The local beach was great, never got too busy and the taverna had just what you needed, sunbeds and umbrellas not overpriced either.Ate all over the island but enjoyed Captains Table in Argostoli for a special meal and a lot of the small tavernas down the side streets were good value for money. Had a great holiday, will go back very soon.

Stayed at the Panorama Studios, Fanari. Very nice & clean, pool with bar and all rooms have sea view, balacony & washing line! Fans for hire for 2 euros a night. Never actually went to Fanari beach or restaurant. We hired a jeep so travelled around in the day and walked/took a taxi to Lassi or Argostoli in the evenings (3-4 euros). Very quiet and an ideal location for getting to Lassi & Argostoli.

We stayed at the Platon Appartment which is half way between the Fanari Hotel and the Panarama appartments near the top of the hill heading towards Argostoli. Cheap and cheerful self catering studios. You can use the pool at the Panarama and get cheap drinks and toasties from Jerassimus. He is a font of information regarding the history of the islands. Fanari is ideal for chilling out, you are close to the lighthouse, the water wheel as well as Lassi. We also recommend the Capital Restaurant which is virtually opposite the camping site. We went twice and the service, food and prices were excellent! Pleny of places to snorkel, there is a small shop at the camp site, very friendly locals and various monuments depicting the plight of the Italian soldiers in 1943. For visitors from Lassi, after the Fanari Hotel turn right up the hill to head for Argostoli! This was the best holiday we have had for many years!

The hotel is OK but the location is isolated and the staff are not at all friendly. Meals are the least amount of food they can serve and get away with it.

Has anyone else been to Fanari Hotel? We like it quiet and enjoy walking but are there roads or footpaths to Lassi And Argastoli? What is the hotel like?

A very isolated spot with nothing around. We stayed in the Fanari Hotel which had a restaurant snack bar and bar. There is not much in easy walking distance but taxis are plentiful and cheap. Lassi and Argostoli are a £2-3 taxi ride away so it is easy to get around if you don't fancy the half hour walk!
